Some ideas: Bases Created Average (BCA) TOP 50

Santana drew 108 walks and hit 34 home runs in 2019

In the previous article, I briefly explained Total Bases Created (TBC) and Bases Created Average (BCA) and listed players that ranked top 10 in the 2019 season. This time, I listed the top 50 players on Bases Created Average (BCA) in the last season.
Each player must have at least 300 plate appearances in 2019. As the top 10 players were already listed in the previous article, let’s focus more on the other 40 players at this moment.

11-20
In this group, we see two great rookies, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Keston Hiura. Each of them played 84 games last season. Tatis hit 22 home runs and finished 3rd in the Rookie of the Year voting. Hiura was called up in May and collected 19 home runs. Both showed some power. It will be very interesting to see whether they can hit 30 home runs in a full season.

Miguel Sano bounced back after a disappointing 2018 season and 34 home runs were his career high. Ketel Marte’s breakout season was impressive and made him an all-star. It will be worth watching if they can replicate performance or even improve. In particular, Sano only played 105 games last season.

21-30
Josh Donaldson drew 100 walks last season, it’s the second time in his career to have at least 100 walks. Meanwhile, he hit 37 home runs. The 33-year-old veteran keeps showing good quality at bat. Mark Canha had a breakout season, 26 home runs and 67 walks were his career high.

Aaron Judge played only 102 games last season due to injury. That somehow affected his performance.

31-40
Carlos Santana bounced back when he came back to the Cleveland Indians. He drew 108 walks and hit 34 home runs (tie career high in 2016). Joc Pederson hit 36 home runs, that was his first season with at least 30 home runs. Mookie Betts and Max Muncy each drew at least 90 walks last season. The Dodgers lineup looks very strong.

Anthony Rizzo was hit by pitch 27 times, most in the league. That let him get on base more. Meanwhile, Rizzo’s teammate, Kris Bryant was hit by pitch 15 times last season.

41-50
Marcus Semien had a fantastic 2019 season, hitting 33 home runs and finishing 3rd in the MVP voting. Yoan Moncada is getting mature and will definitely be the core of the White Sox lineup. Acuna hit 41 home runs last season and became an all-star for the first time. However, Acuna was struck out 188 times, the second most in the league.

Bryce Harper did hit more home runs (35) in his first season as a Phillie than he did (34) in the last season in DC. Nonetheless, he walked 130 times in the 2018 season, but in the 2019 season, he walked 99 times.

The top 50 list of Bases Created Average (BCA) could provide a different perspective to see a player’s contribution. A double and two walks both create 2 bases, however, there are 2 different stories. But if you look at the number in a longer time span, you can have a shot on knowing if a player gets more bases, particularly, in each plate appearance. A player who can hit will help a team. A player who stays disciplined at the plate will be helpful for a team.
