An unforgettable Fall Classic

The 2020 season is coming to an end. It’s an unusual season, but thankfully we have baseball. After the 60-game regular season, Wild Card Series, Division Series, League Championship Series and World Series, the Dodgers finally won the World Series champions for the first time since 1988.

Here something interesting I found during this World Series,

Justin Turner

114

Mookie Betts

113

Corey Seager

Will Smith

Dodgers hitters are really patient in this series. Max Muncy saw 121 pitches in the World Series. Just for your reference, Tyler Glasnow threw 112 pitches in game 1 and 102 pitches in game 5. On average, Muncy saw 4.481 pitches per plate appearance in these 6 games, he really made Rays pitchers work a lot as he always does during the regular season. Max Muncy saw 4.435 pitches per plate appearance this year.

Justin Turner is also a patient hitter that made Rays pitchers work a lot. He saw 114 pitches in this World Series and on average, Turner saw 4.385 pitches per plate appearance. During the 2020 regular season, Turner saw 3.891 pitches per plate appearance.

Mookie Betts has become very patient when batting first. He saw 113 pitches in the WS, on average, 4.036 P/PA. In the regular season, Mookie only saw 3.78 pitches per plate appearance.

Corey Seager is known for his aggressiveness on the first pitch. He saw only 3.478 pitches per PA in the 2020 regular season. He has become really patient in the Fall Classic and it’s hard to get him out. On average, he saw 4.148 pitches per PA in the World Series. You must be patient to be a World Series MVP.

Will Smith is actually a very patient hitter. He saw 4.453 pitches per plate appearance during the regular season and he saw 4.115 pitches per plate appearance in the World Series.

Mike Zunino is a good catcher, but he did face some hitting problems this fall. His swing & miss % is 30.3% and he was struck out 9 times in the WS.

Brandon Lowe also struggled in the fall. He only hit “.118/.183/.276” in the postseason. In the World Series, Lowe’s swing and miss rate is 24% and was struck out 10 times.

Kevin Kiermaier and Willy Adames both had seen a swing and miss rate over 20%.

Chris Taylor’s swing and miss rate is 19%, the highest in the Dodgers lineup.

Corey Seager is the hottest hitter in the Dodgers lineup and Randy Arozarena is now a well-known name in the Rays lineup. Seager’s xwOBA is .500 in this series and Randy Arozarena posts a .502 xwOBA. They are two most dangerous hitters in the fall classic.

Kevin Kiermaier is a three-time Gold Glove winner and we all know his defense is fantastic and he can make spectacular plays. He not only brings his glove in this series, but also shows that he can hit well. His xwOBA is “.466” in the world series. He only had three homers in the 2020 season, but he crushed 2 homers in the fall classic.

Justin Turner and Max Muncy have been doing a great job in the middle of the lineup. They are really patient in the WS and each have an xwOBA over .400. Turner has 6 extra base hits in the World Series and Muncy has two extra base hits.

It’s not an easy season. The COVID-19 pandemic just causes so much chaos in our life and in baseball. Spring training was suspended and the regular season was delayed. Finally, there was baseball. It’s a shortened season, but it’s surely unforgettable. 30 teams tried their best to clinch playoffs, 16 teams were fighting hard in the postseason and 2 great teams gave us a great World Series.
