90 wins, good?

There’s always a lot to learn in baseball. A few days ago, I was reading a book, which was written by a former manager. In the book, he indicated that, in one season, his team didn’t play well. Well, he didn’t think they played well. However, the team still won 90+ games in that season. While reading the book, I was just thinking about a question.

Well, from 2010 to 2022, which teams frequently finished a season with at least 90 wins? To understand a little bit more, I went to check on the great baseball reference website.

From 2010 to 2012, the Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t finish a season with at least 90 wins. Additionally, they didn’t clinch a berth in the postseason during these 3 seasons. However, since 2013, winning 90+ games in a single season has been normal to the Dodgers. The only time that the Dodgers didn’t win 90 games was in 2020 and we all remember that it was a shortened season. The team is currently on a postseason streak of 10 straight seasons. Furthermore, from 2010 to 2022, there were 4 times that Dodgers finished a season with 100+ wins.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees finished a season with at least 90 wins 8 times from 2010 to 2022. From 2013 to 2016, they didn’t finish a season with at least 90 wins for 4 straight years. Nonetheless, the Yankees won at least 100 games in 2018 and 2019. The Yankees are now on a postseason streak of 6 straight seasons. In addition, please keep an eye on the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays won 90+ games 7 times from 2010 to 2022. Among those seasons with 90+ wins, the Rays clinched a postseason spot 5 times. The Rays are currently at a postseason streak of 4 consecutive seasons. At the same time, the Cardinals had 7 seasons with 90+ wins from 2010 to 2022. Among those seasons with at least 90 wins, the Cardinals clinched a postseason spot each time. In 2011, the Cardinals won exactly 90 games during the regular season and they had an amazing postseason to win the 2011 World Series title. For some teams, winning 90+ games in a single season isn’t that difficult. However, for the Marlins, it might not be easy. From 2010 to 2022, the Marlins never finished a season with at least 90 wins. Moreover, they lost 100+ games in a single season twice. In the Marlins franchise history, they only won at least 90 games in a single season twice. The first one was in 1997 and the other one was in 2003. They won the World Series title these 2 seasons. Winning 90 games in a single season might be enough for many teams to clinch a spot in the postseason. When we look back at the last 13 seasons, there’s no doubt that the Dodgers and the Yankees are two successful teams. And, winning 90+ games in a single season has been like a routine for these 2 teams. Last year, 9 teams finished the season with at least 90 wins. This season, let’s see whether there will be a team to surprisingly win 90 games.
