Pitchers of the Month for March/April were just announced a couple of days ago. Ranger Suarez is NL pitcher of the month and in the AL, the winner is Jose Berrios.

In March and April, Ranger Suarez made 6 starts, posting a 1.32 ERA and a 0.63 WHIP over 41 innings. Opponents’ batting average against Suarez was only .153. By far this season, he made 7 starts, posting a 1.72 ERA and a 0.72 WHIP. At the same time, Jose Berrios owns a 1.44 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP in 43.2 innings. They certainly have a great start at the beginning of the 2024 season. Meanwhile, there are other pitchers who also have a great start in 2024.

Shota Imanaga inked a 4-year deal with the Cubs in January. In his first season in the majors, he didn’t let the Cubs down. He was just named the NL Rookie of the Month. By far this season, he posts a 0.78 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP over 34.2 innings. Imanaga made 6 starts so far and opponents’ batting average against him is only .172.

In addition, the Red Sox pitching staff have done a great job so far this season. They now have an ERA below 3 and among 30 MLB teams, only the Red Sox and the Mariners have an ERA below 3. A key pitcher in the Red Sox rotation is Kutter Crawford. He already made 7 starts for the Red Sox. And his performance is very impressive. Crawford now has a 1.56 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP across 40.1 innings. In the meantime, Tanner Houck has been pitching well. Houck now owns a 1.99 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP over 45.1 innings. Houck tossed a shutout in mid-April.

Moreover, Logan Gilbert has been outstanding. Gilbert made 7 starts for the Mariners so far. He has a 1.69 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP in 48 innings. Opponents hit only .152 against him.

At the same time, in the AL Central, Seth Lugo has pitched well for the Royals and Tarik Skubal is a top arm of the Tigers. Lugo posts a 1.60 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP over 45 innings thus far. Meanwhile, Skubal is the new ace of the Tigers. He owns a 1.72 ERA and a 0.74 WHIP over 36.2 innings.

Finally, Jordan Hicks is an interesting signing in the offseason. Hicks made 65 relief appearances in 2023. He posted a 3.29 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP over 65.2 innings. The Giants inked a 4-year contract with him in January. By far, Hicks already made 7 starts. He owns a 1.89 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP over 38 innings. Opponents’ batting average against Hicks is only .187. Furthermore, in the Phillies rotation, Zack Wheeler now has a 1.91 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP thus far.

At the beginning of the 2024 season, we have seen 10 pitchers who have an ERA below 2. However, it will be worthwhile to see if those pitchers can continue pitching consistently during a long season. In the meantime, some pitchers who were relievers last year and now become good starters. It will be very interesting to see how many innings they will toss in 2024.
