Seager’s Bowman card

It’s really weird for me to see Corey Seager wearing No.12. He has been wearing No. 5 since he made his MLB debut in 2015. He won the Rookie of the Year award in 2016 and, from 2015 to 2019, he has been a 2-time all-star and 2-time silver slugger. Meanwhile, he finished 3rd in the NL MVP voting in 2016.
Seager is no doubt a great player, so what did the scouting profile say on the bowman baseball card?

Scouting Profile
Bowman cards Insight
Power: 80
Average: 80
1 of 5 players in the Dodgers Organization with 20+ 2B, 15+ HR AND 10+ SB in 2013
Speed: 60
Fielding: 50
You probably don’t have to worry about Seager’s hitting, he can hit and he has power. His speed is good. However, his fielding might be a concern.

Power
The scouting profile showed that Seager could be a power hitter. His power is definitely above average, hitting 26 home runs in 2016 and 22 home runs in 2017. He also had 40 doubles in 2016 and 44 doubles, which led the National League last season.

Hit for Average
Seager’s swing is very natural and compact and he makes good contacts. He can also hit the ball to all parts of the field. From 2015 to 2019, Seager hit .294/.362/.491. He’s surely a good hitter.

Speed is not Seager’s strength. He is in the middle in the league and not a threat at stealing bases.

Fielding
Seager is 6’4’’, a very tall shortstop. His fielding percentage was .970 from 2015 to 2019. He had 52 errors and his DRS was -3. However, from the statcast data, we see that Seager is actually not bad at defense.

Besides Seager’s scouting profile, the bowman cards insight is very worth reading. Who else were the other 4 players that had 20+ doubles, 15+ home runs and 10+ stolen bases in the Dodgers farm system in 2013?

It took me a while to find the other 4 guys. Joc Pederson was the first one I came out. It was no doubt that Pederson had a great 2013. He had power and was considered a solid runner. He and Seager were top 2 prospects in the Dodgers farm system in 2013. The second one I found was Scott Schebler. No doubt about Scott Schebler’s offensive skills, but I didn’t notice that he had more than 10 stolen bases in the minors. Nike Buss also had a great season in 2013, he had 100 RBIs in AAA and made it to the big league. Jon Garcia hasn’t made it to the big league.

Reviewing Seager’s scouting profile on a bowman card is quite interesting. The scouts did not make any mistakes. Seager has become a very good hitter in the league. The scouts might not be that confident in Seager's defense, well, Seager is probably not going to be a gold glove winner, but he has done well as a shortstop. The 2020 season is a short season with only 60 games. However, Seager could reach some career milestones such as 600 hits and 300 RBIs. From 2015 to 2019, Corey Seager has collected 545 hits and batted in 266 runs. With Seager, the Dodgers’ lineup will be very solid and is one of the toughest lineups in 2020.
