Bowman has been a very popular brand to hunt for top prospects. Bowman chrome is one of the cool bowman products for collectors to search for top rookies and prospects. Meanwhile, there are on-card autographs and several inserts. It’s always exciting to see some prospects make it into the big league and even become stars. But it could take some time.
Stat Tracker is an insert that is normally included in the Bowman Chrome. This time, I got a stat tracker insert of a Yankees prospect Everson Pereira, who is an outfielder and currently No. 14 prospect in the Yankees farm system. According to MLB pipeline, his MLB ETA is 2022.
At age 17, he played in the Pulaski Yankees, a team of the advanced Rookie-level Appalachian League. He was hitting .263/.322/.389. He had 44 hits, third most in the team, and 26 RBI, also third most in the team. As a center fielder, he had only two errors in 36 games.
In 2019, Everson Pereira turned 18 and played for the Staten Island Yankees, a short A team. He was hitting .171/.216/.257. Meanwhile, he did not commit an error in the outfield.
In his two brief seasons in the minors, he played 59 games and slashed .236/.292/.350. He was struck out 86 times and drew 19 walks. No minor league games in 2020 truly hurt baseball and these top prospects missed one-year development. Even though Everson Pereira is only 19, it’s still a pity that he could not play in the minors in 2020.
Looking at the Yankees farm, Jasson Dominguez is the No.1 prospect, however, he hasn’t played any games in the minors yet. 3 of top 10 prospects already made it into the big league. They are Clarke Schmidt, Deivi Garcia and Estevan Florial. Right-handed pitcher Clarke Schmidt made two relief appearances and one start in 2020. Schmidt threw 7 strikeouts and allowed 5 walks in these 3 games. At the same time, he posted a 7.11 ERA and a WHIP of 1.89 in the shortened season. Right-handed pitcher Deivi Garcia already made 6 starts for the Yankees and earned 3 wins. Garcia tossed 34.1 innings in the 2020 season. He threw 33 strikeouts and only gave up 6 walks. He had a 4.98 ERA and a WHIP of 1.19. Garcia also threw 1 inning in the postseason. Outfielder Estevan Florial made his MLB debut on August 28 and he collected his first career hit in that game.
One of the cool things in baseball is to watch prospects in the farm system. There are top prospects that are selected in the first round or the second round, or signed a big deal as an international free agent. In the meantime, there are also prospects, who are drafted in the late rounds and become All-Stars. These prospects make baseball very interesting and their journeys in the minors are truly encouraging. However, there is no guarantee that top prospects in the minors will someday be called up. It’s baseball. You can’t guarantee anything. Nonetheless, collecting baseball cards of prospects and seeing the ups and downs during their careers could be really joyful.
