2021 Topps Heritage High Number – Error

A few weeks ago, I went to a card shop and bought some packs of the 2021 Topps Heritage High Number. 2021 Topps Heritage High Number brings us back to 1972 and helps us review the 2021 season. When I was checking those cards, I found a card with a low number. It’s a Cavan Biggio baseball card. I was wondering if this card is a short print card or not. Then, I went to search for additional information.

After searching, I found that Topps released a statement on its Twitter account in early 2021. It showed that due to a production error, Cavan Biggio’s base card was not produced and that was why collectors didn’t find this card in 2021 Topps Heritage, this card will be inserted in 2021 Heritage High Number.
Well, a production error makes me wonder whether Cavan Biggio is good at defense. How many errors did he commit so far in his career? Thus, I went to check on the Major League Baseball website.  Cavan Biggio made his MLB debut on May 24, 2019, and he started his career as a second baseman. He can play different positions. So far in his career, he has played 6 different positions.

Mostly, the Toronto Blue Jays let Cavan Biggio play second base. He has played nearly 130 games at second base. He has 7 errors and a .986 fielding percentage. Moreover, he also played 62 games at third base. But, he might not be the best choice for the Blue Jays to move him to third base. Cavan Biggio committed 10 errors and his fielding percentage at third base is only .940. Furthermore, he had 1 error as a first baseman and 1 error as a right fielder. So far in Cavan Biggio’s career, playing at third base might be a bit challenging, but he looks fine at other five positions. In addition, looking at Cavan Biggio’s fielding stats, I also think of another player’s defense. Craig Biggio, father of Cavan Biggio, is a Hall of Famer and won 4 Gold Glove awards.

Craig Biggio played 2850 games in the majors, all with the Houston Astros. Craig Biggio began his career as a catcher and then he was moved to the outfield. In 1992, he became the full-time second baseman of the Astros. In Craig Biggio’s career, he played nearly 2000 games at second base, he had a .984 fielding percentage and committed 157 errors. He won four consecutive Gold Glove awards from 1994 to 1997. Moreover, as catcher, Craig Biggio had 30 errors in his career and owned a .989 fielding percentage. And, he had only 4 errors as a center fielder. However, he played as a left fielder in 109 games and had 11 errors. Most of those 11 errors came in 2004. He committed 9 errors at left field in 2004. Looking at two Biggios in the majors, they are both versatile players who can play several positions and they can play well. Nonetheless, Cavan Biggio seems to have some problems at third base and it’s quite weird to see Craig Biggio charged 9 errors at left field in 2004. Meanwhile, it’s just the beginning of Cavan Biggio’s career, let’s see whether he can win the Gold Glove award as his father did.
