Best franchise since 2000?

Some people say the best team should be the one with the most World Series Champions. Some people say the best team is the team that wins most games. They are not wrong. To think about the best franchise since 2000, I’m trying to use a different way to evaluate which origination has been the best.

A great team should win a lot of games, no doubt. However, a team with the most wins might not be the one with the most World Series Champions. Sometimes, a 100-win team might fail in the playoffs. To think about the best organization, I try to use a different method to evaluate. The idea isn’t complicated. I just reviewed those teams with the most League Championship Series appearances.

From 2000 to 2021, the St. Louis Cardinals made 10 NLCS appearances. They won the NL pennant four times and won 2 World Series Champions. Over these 22 seasons, the Cardinals won more than 1900 games.
   The New York Yankees won the World Series title 27 times, most among MLB franchises. There’s no doubt that the Yankees are the most well-known baseball franchise of the world. From 2000 to 2021, the Yankees made 9 ALCS appearances. However, the Yankees have never won the AL pennant since 2009, a year that they won the World Series title. Since the Guggenheim Baseball Management took control of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012, the Dodgers have been one of the most competitive teams in the majors. The Dodgers have clinched a berth in the playoffs since 2013 and won the World Series title in 2020. Over the last 22 seasons, the Dodgers made 8 NLCS appearances and won the NL pennant 3 times. Since 2000, the Boston Red Sox have won the World Series title 4 times, most among MLB franchises. Over the last 22 seasons, the Red Sox made 7 ALCS appearances. Meanwhile, the Astros had 7 LCS appearances. The Astros made 2 NLCS appearances during this period. Additionally, they have made 5 straight ALCS appearances since 2017. Finally, the San Francisco Giants won the World Series title in 2010, 2012 and 2014. Over the last 22 seasons, they made 4 NLCS appearances and won the NL pennant 4 times. The Cubs also made 4 NLCS appearances, but they didn’t win as many NL pennants as the Giants did. However, they won the 2016 NL pennant and ended the 108-year World Series drought. Moreover, the Tigers made 4 ALCS appearances, but they are still looking for their first World Series title since 1984. Over the last 22 seasons, the Cardinals led the majors with most LCS appearances and we can’t ignore that the Cardinals are a good franchise in the MLB. Among those teams that made at least 4 LCS appearances from 2000 to 2021, the Detroit Tigers are the only team that didn’t become the World Series Champions. At the same time, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cincinnati Reds and the San Diego Padres haven’t appeared in the LCS since 2000. Let’s see whether one of these three teams will play in the NLCS in 2022.
