A few weeks ago, I watched a highlight on YouTube. In the highlight, a batter, who’s playing for the away team, crushed a home run at Dodger stadium. And the highlight showed that the batter has crushed a lot of home runs at this ballpark.
After watching the highlight, I began to think about a question. Which batters had hit well at Dodger stadium over the last few seasons? To understand a little bit more, I decided to check on the statcast website.
Buster Posey, who won the 2012 NL MVP award, had 1500 hits in his career. He played in the majors from 2009 to 2021. In his career, he collected 93 hits at Dodger stadium and 10 of those hits were home runs. In particular, he had 15 hits at Dodger stadium in 2015.
In addition, Paul Goldschmidt is the 2022 NL MVP award winner. He made his MLB debut in 2011. So far in his career, his batting average is over .300 at Dodger stadium. From 2011 to 2023, Goldschmidt collected 87 hits at this ballpark.
Moreover, Charlie Blackmon has spent 14 seasons with the Rockies. He made his MLB debut in 2011. But he didn’t play at Dodger stadium in 2011. From 2012 to 2023, Blackmon collected 78 hits at Dodger stadium.
Furthermore, Nolan Arenado had 66 hits at Dodger stadium from 2013 to 2023. Gerardo Parra had 65 hits at this ballpark in his career.
Now, let’s look at the number of home runs. Paul Goldschmidt had 87 hits at Dodger stadium from 2011 to 2023. Among those 87 hits, 18 were home runs. In particular, in 2015, he played for the Diamondbacks and blasted 5 home runs in 10 games at Dodger stadium. Back in 2015, his OPS was over 1.000 at this ballpark.
Additionally, Nolan Arenado blasted 17 home runs at Dodger stadium from 2013 to 2023. Nonetheless, the last time that he crushed a home run at Dodger stadium was in 2022.
And we have to take a look at Christian Walker, he made his MLB debut in 2014. However, he didn’t hit well at the beginning of his career. Walker was claimed by the Diamondbacks in March 2017. But he only played 11 games for the D-backs in that season. In 2018, he played 37 games for the D-backs, hitting .163/.226/.388 with 3 home runs and 6 RBI. One of those 3 home runs was hit at Dodger stadium. From 2018 to 2023, Walker smashed 12 home runs at Dodger stadium.
Finally, Justin Upton played 16 seasons in the majors and he had 12 home runs at Dodger stadium. The first time that he belted a homer at Dodger stadium was in 2009.
Over the last 16 seasons, Buster Posey is the only player that collected 90+ hits at Dodger stadium and Paul Goldschmidt had 80+ hits at this ballpark. These 2 MVP award winners truly showed that they can hit against the Dodgers pitchers at this ballpark. However, Posey already retired. Goldschmidt is now playing for the Cardinal and doesn’t visit the Dodgers as often as he played for the D-backs. Nonetheless, Christian Walker seems to enjoy hitting at Dodger stadium because he already crushed 7 home runs at this ballpark this season.
