Great June?

The first half of the 2024 season will come to an end soon. Before coming to the All-Star break, several players had done a good job in June. And let’s see how outstanding they were last month.

Firstly, let’s look at batters. Jarren Duran finished April and May with an OPS below .800. However, in June, he was fantastic. Duran collected 39 hits in 25 games. Last month, he slashed .364/.420/.636 with 6 home runs and 16 RBI. He had an OPS over 1.000 in June.

In addition, Gunnar Henderson has a great June, slashing .342/.432/.649 with 8 home runs and 17 RBI over 28 games. He’s been hitting well in 2024. His OPS was .888 in May, which was good. Nonetheless, in June, he was unstoppable and collected 39 hits. Meanwhile, another shortstop enjoyed a great June. Carlos Correa had 38 hits last month and he owned an OPS over 1.000.

Moreover, Yandy Diaz has been one of the most important hitters in the Rays lineup. Nonetheless, his OPS was just .512 in April and in May, he finished the month with a .754 OPS. But he gradually heated up in June, slashing .325/.345/.474 with 3 home runs and 15 RBI. Diaz collected 37 hits and owned an OPS over .800 in June.

Furthermore, Aaron Judge is always one of the toughest hitters to face in the majors. His OPS was over 1.000 in May. In June, there’s no clue that he’s going to stop. Judge slashed .409/.514/.865 with 11 home runs and 37 RBI across 25 games. Judge had 17 extra base hits last month.

At the same time, Jonathan India and Bryan Reynolds each collected 35 hits in June.

Now, let’s focus on the pitchers. The Chicago White Sox don’t have a great season. However, it’s worthwhile to watch Garrett Crochet. He didn’t have a great start and in April, his ERA was over 6. But since May, he’s been one of the most dominant pitchers in the majors. Last month, he struck out 56 batters. In June, Crochet posted a 1.91 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP over 37.2 innings.

Furthermore, Taj Bradley was back from the IL in May. He threw 29 strikeouts over 23 innings in May. Last month, he struck out 43 batters in 32.1 innings. Bradley owned a 3.62 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP in June.

In the meantime, Cole Ragans punched out 42 batters in June. He finished the month of June with a 3.28 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP in 35.2 innings. Sonny Gray also threw 35.2 innings in June and he struck out 42 batters. Gray had a great May with a WHIP of 0.98.

Finally, 5 other pitchers each had at least 40 strikeouts last month.

For some players, they didn’t have a good start this year, but they gradually heated up. We’ve seen that some players such as Yandy Diaz truly bounced back after the first 2 months. And Garrett Crochet has been pitching well over the last 2 months. Crochet is the AL pitcher of the month for June. He had a great June and has drawn a lot of attention. At the same time, players such as Aaron Judge, who was just named the AL Player of the month for June, and Gunnar Henderson have been playing well through the season. It will be worthwhile to see how well they will end in the first half of the season.
