Win-Win trade?

Topps chrome is the highlight of topps series 1 and topps series 2. The set has 200 cards and provides shining rookies and stars. There are also many refractor cards and autographs to chase. I usually buy some packs every year and try to find some rookie cards and refractor cards. This year, I got a Brusdar Graterol rookie card. At the beginning, I was wondering if his number was correct. He actually wears No. 48 in the Dodgers. He should have pitched for the Red Sox if the 3-team trade had been completed.

Graterol’s medical record caused the Red Sox front office to rethink and pause the deal. A three-team trade was split into two trades.

It might be still too early to say which team benefits the most from the trade. However, after 1 month of the 2020 season, we can have a quick review on these two trades.

Mookie Betts hit .293/.359/.638 so far this season, he also crushed 11 home runs and collected 24 RBIs. 11 home runs is currently the second most in the majors, only behind Fernando Tatis Jr., who already hit 12 homers. Brusdar Graterol already tossed a career-high 10.2 innings and earned 3 holds. Although he took 2 losses, his ERA is a fine 3.38 and his WHIP is 0.94.

Alex Verdugo currently hits .303/.373/.535. From August 10 to August 22, Verdugo had a 13-game hitting streak. He has more opportunities in the Red Sox and leads in hits in the Red Sox. This season is indeed his breakout season.

Kenta Maeda has been very solid in the Twins rotation. In 6 starts, he already earned 4 wins. In 36.2 innings, he struck out 40, only issued 7 free passes and gave up 19 hits. He has a very good 0.71 WHIP so far. He nearly tossed a no-hitter against the Milwaukee Brewers on August 18.

Mookie Betts seems to be a great fit in Hollywood. He indeed hits very well and he already made several spectacular defensive plays in the outfield. Mookie Betts is surely a candidate for the NL MVP. Brusdar Graterol has been quite reliable and consistent in the Dodgers bullpen. He throws really hard as we already saw several 99-mph or 100-mph fastballs. Alex Verdugo was a top prospect and finally has his opportunity to be an everyday player. He has become an important part of the Red Sox lineup. Kenta Maeda probably won’t be moved to the bullpen this season since he has been dominant thus far.

David Price has not made his Dodgers debut yet, those prospects in the trades haven’t made it to the big league. It will be fair to re-evaluate these two trades in the next season or even after the next season. However, we can see that the trades work for each team and those players, who played in this season. The Red Sox cut the team’s payroll, but they still have a good outfielder. The Twins' rotation has been much better after Kenta Maeda joined the team. Dodgers built a very dangerous lineup in the majors and also enhanced the bullpen.
