Are you ready for 2021?

It’s 2021. The 2021 MLB season is planned to begin on April 1 and the final day of the regular season will be on Sunday, October 3. Hence, in less than 3 months, there will be baseball. However, Covid-19 still makes it complicated and we don’t know if there will be any changes for the MLB season. If there is baseball, some cool things could happen in 2021.

Firstly, Miguel Cabrera needs 134 hits to reach the 3000 hit mark. Miguel Cabrera’s career began at the Florida Marlins. On June 20, 2003, he made his MLB debut and the game was against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Cabrera collected his very first career hit at the bottom of the 11th inning. Miguel Cabrera hit a fly ball to deep center field. It was a two-run walk-off homer. That was surely an unforgettable game for Cabrera and a great start for his career. Meanwhile, Cabrera also needs 13 home runs to enter the 500 home run club.

In addition, several veteran pitchers are getting close to some milestones. Jon Lester has played for 15 seasons in the majors and has won 3 World Series Champions. So far, Lester already earned 193 wins and threw 2397 strikeouts. Can Lester earn his 200th career win or to throw his career 2500th strikeout in 2021? It truly depends on whether he will sign a new contract.

Two veteran pitchers are close to joining the 2000 strikeout club. David Price needs only 19 strikeouts to enter the 2000 strikeout club. However, he decided to opt out of the 2020 season. So we have to wait till 2021 season to see him achieve this milestone, but the key thing is that he has to play in 2021. Gio Gonzalez needs 140 strikeouts to enter the 2000 strikeout club. It might not be easy for him to reach this milestone in 2021. Last time that Gio Gonzalez threw more than 140 strikeouts in a single season was back in 2018, which he threw 148 Ks. But Gio Gonzalez needs 67 innings to reach the 2000 innings pitched milestone. This one might be highly possible.

You might still remember that Mike Brosseau took Chapman deep in the game 5 of the ALDS and helped the Rays advance to the ALCS. Nonetheless, you can’t ignore Chapman’s great career. Chapman has already played 11 seasons in the majors and collected 276 saves. Chapman needs 24 saves to reach 300 saves. If he makes it, he will be the 31st pitcher to reach this milestone.

If the 2020 season weren’t a shortened one, many players would reach some milestones earlier. But, 2020 is already gone. 2021 will be a different year and we are looking forward to a new season. Hopefully, it will be a season that is a 162-game regular season and this is a season that we can see fans packed in the stadium. So, fans can see players achieve these great milestones and applause for their great accomplishments. And, of course, everyone stays healthy and safe. Thus, we can truly enjoy the 2021 season.
