Do they have nightmares?

Undoubtedly, most people would name Mike Trout the best player in baseball. At the same, Juan Soto is a rising star for the Washington Nationals. Mike Trout has more than 300 home runs so far in his career. It’s going to be Juan Soto’s 4th season with the Nationals and he already has 69 home runs. Trout and Soto are two very dangerous hitters in the league and these two players have become many pitchers’ nightmares.

However, they are human beings and they do have some problems when playing against some teams.

Mike Trout, a three-time MVP and an eight-time All-Star, you can definitely find that he also obtains many other awards. He can hit, sure, Mike Trout is really good at hitting. However, there’s one team that Trout couldn’t hit .250. That team is the neighbor, the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 38 games against the Dodgers, Trout hit .240/.321/.500 with 10 home runs and 25 RBI. Well, Trout only bat .240 against the Dodgers, nonetheless, his OPS against the Dodgers was .821, which isn’t that bad. The Dodgers won the 2020 World Series Championship and they won the NL West title 8 straight years. We can probably say that only a team with the pitching depth such as the Dodgers can stop Trout. Meanwhile, so far in Trout’s career, he batted .254 with 13 home runs against the Tigers.

Juan Soto made it into the big league in May 2018. In his career so far, Soto already won the batting title once and the 2019 World Series champion. The rising star plays a crucial role in the Nationals. Last season, Soto was batting .351/.490/.695 and his OPS of 1.185 led the majors. Nonetheless, Soto has some problems against the Cardinals. In 12 games against the Cardinals, Soto only batted .132/.346/.263 with 1 home run and 4 RBI. Coming into the 4th season of his career, Soto will try to figure out how to hit against the Cardinals.

Now, let’s look at performance at different ballparks. Mike Trout failed to hit .250 at Minute Maid Park and Dodger Stadium. At the Astros’ home, Trout already played 58 games and batted .218/.345/.447 with 11 home runs and 31 RBI. The Angels will play at Minute Maid Park 10 times this season and let’s see whether Mike Trout will improve his numbers when visiting the Astros. Additionally, playing at Dodger stadium is not so easy, Mike Trout batted .236/.300/.500 with 4 home runs and 14 RBI at Dodger stadium. However, Trout’s OPS of .792 at Minute Maid Park is not really bad and he posted an .800 OPS at Dodger stadium, which is fine.

In Soto’s career so far, there are five ballparks that Soto has at least 50 plate appearances. He batted .238/.378/.425 with 3 homers and 10 RBI at Marlins Park, however, he posted an OPS of .803, which isn’t bad. It’s Mike Trout’s 11th season in the big league and we all see how good he is. He’s definitely an all-around player. Even thought Trout failed to hit .250 against the Dodgers, he still has an above .800 OPS. It’s really hard to pitch to Mike Trout. Meanwhile, Juan Soto will have to know how to hit against the Cardinals and we will see whether he will gradually become a great player as Trout.
