Enjoy hitting at a new team?

A couple of weeks ago, we took a quick look at some pitchers who signed a new contract with a new team and saw how they perform in a new uniform. Now, let’s look at some batters who agreed to a new deal before the beginning of the 2021 season and see whether they have been performing well so far. After spending 7 seasons with the Astros, 3-time All-Star George Springer decided not to return to Houston. He and the Blue Jays agreed to a 6-year deal in January. By far, Springer played 56 games for the Blue Jays and is hitting .260/.354/.567 with 16 home runs and 35 RBI. Injuries limited Springer’s performance in his first season in the Blue Jays uniform. In addition, the Blue Jays signed Marcus Semien to a one-year deal. Semien slashed .223/.305/.374 with 7 homers and 23 RBI in 2020. By far this season, Semien is hitting .270/.338/.548 with 38 home runs and 88 RBI. And, Semien was selected to the All-Star game for the first time. In addition, the Brewers signed Kolten Wong for a two-year deal. Wong spent 8 years with the Cardinals and he hit .261/.333/.384 with 53 home runs and 281 RBI in the Cardinals uniform. So far, Wong is hitting .281/.341/.452 with 11 home runs and 42 RBI. Moreover, Jackie Bradley Jr. inked a two-year deal with the Brewers after playing for the Red Sox for 8 seasons. Bradley Jr. slashed .283/.364/.450 with 7 home runs and 22 RBI last season. By far, Bradley already played 117 games for the Brewers and he is currently hitting .169/.244/.277 with 6 home runs, 29 RBI and 6 stolen bases. Kyle Schwarber collected 7 hits in the 2016 World Series and he was one of the key players to help the Cubs end the 108-year drought. However, the Cubs non-tendered Schwarber after he had a bad 2020 with a .188/.308/.393 slash line. In January, Schwarber signed a one-year deal with the Nationals. He played 72 games for the Nationals and slashed .253/.340/.570 with 25 home runs and 53 RBI. Schwarber became an All-Star for the first time this season. On July 29, he was traded to the Red Sox and he’s hitting .325/.460/.550 with 4 home runs and 8 RBI thus far. Furthermore, Hunter Renfroe didn’t have a good 2020 season. He batted just .156/.252/.393 with 8 home runs and 22 RBI last year. He and the Red Sox agreed to a one-year deal last December. Renfroe currently bats .265/.321/.508 with 26 home runs and 83 RBI over 123 games. Finally, let’s see two players who won the 2020 World Series Champions with the Dodgers. Joc Pederson made his MLB debut on September 1, 2014. In his 7 seasons with the Dodgers, he posted an .806 OPS, crushed 130 home runs and collected 303 RBI. Pederson signed a one-year deal with the Cubs in February and he slashed .230/.300/.418 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI over 73 games. He was traded to the Braves in mid-July and he’s hitting .235/.325/.402 with 5 home runs and 17 RBI over 45 games in the Braves uniform. Additionally, Kike Hernandez signed a two-year deal with the Red Sox after playing 6 seasons for the Dodgers. He was hitting .230/.270/.410 with 5 home runs and 20 RBI last season and so far he posts a batting average of .255 and an OPS of .802 for the Red Sox. Marcus Semien, Kyle Schwarber and Hunter Renfroe didn’t have a good 2020 season. They each signed a one-year deal before the 2021 season and so far, these signings have been paid off. Marcus Semien has a career-high 38 home runs so far and Kyle Schwarber crushed 25 home runs before being traded to the Red Sox. Also, these two players were selected to the All-Star game for the first time this year.
