Watching the 2022 MLB postseason games was surely very entertaining. The Astros just defeated the Phillies in the World Series. Additionally, the 2022 NLCS was quite interesting. In particular, Bryce Harper and Manny Machado were both on the field. Back in 2010, Bryce Harper was the first overall pick and Manny Machado was the third overall selection.
There are several great players who were selected in the first round of the 2010 MLB draft. But, in 2022, it’s the first time seeing all the top 3 picks of the 2010 draft in the postseason. These 3 players each have different journeys in the postseason. Firstly, Manny Machado is not new to playing in the postseason. Back in 2012, Manny Machado made his MLB debut. In his rookie season, Machado was hitting .262/.294/.445 with 7 home runs and 26 RBI in 51 games. The Orioles clinched a spot in the postseason in 2012 and Machado hit .158/.238/.368 with 1 home run and 2 RBI in his first postseason. Moreover, Machado collected a hit in the 2016 postseason. In July 2018, he was traded to the Dodgers. Machado hit .227/.278/.394 with 3 home runs and 12 RBI in the 2018 playoffs. In particular, Machado played in the World Series for the first time. However, he only collected 4 hits in 24 plate appearances in the 2018 World Series. Machado inked a long-term deal with the Padres in February 2019. From 2019 to 2022, the Padres clinched a spot in the postseason twice. The first time was in 2020, Machado hit only .154/.185/.385 with 2 home runs and 2 RBI. Nonetheless, in the 2022 postseason, he’s hitting well with a .271/.327/.583 slash line. Furthermore, he crushed 4 home runs this postseason. In addition, the Pirates selected Jameson Taillon with the 2nd overall pick. There are so many ups and downs in his career. In particular, Taillon underwent Tommy John surgery twice. Nonetheless, two TJ surgeries didn’t knock him down. By far, Taillon made 143 starts in his career, posting a 3.84 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. In 2022, Taillon made his postseason debut with the Yankees. In total, he tossed 4.1 innings in the 2022 postseason, owning a 6.23 ERA and a 2.31 WHIP. Finally, Bryce Harper eventually played in the NLCS and in the World Series. Previously, Harper played for the Nationals for 7 seasons and during these 7 seasons, the Nationals clinched a postseason spot 4 times. However, the Nationals lost 4 times in the NLDS. This postseason, Harper truly shows how great he is. He crushed a home run in the NL Wild Card Series. In the NLDS, Harper batted .500/.529/1.063 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI. In the NLCS, he slashed .400/.400/.850 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI. Moreover, Harper was named the NLCS MVP. In the 2022 World Series, Harper hit .200/.360/.400 with 1 home run and 2 RBI. Several players who were selected in the first round of the 2010 draft already won the World Series title. For example, Drew Pomeranz and Chris Sale won the 2018 World Series Champions with the Red Sox. In 2022, it’s the first time seeing all top 3 picks of the 2010 draft in the postseason. Bryce Harper and the Phillies fell short in the 2022 World Series. Manny Machado was the final out of the 2018 World Series. Among these 3 players, let’s see who will be the first player to win the World Series title.
