Not a good guest at Coors

A couple of months ago, I watched a baseball game on TV. The game was at Coors Field, however, the Rockies lost the game. In the game, a player from the away team hit well. After watching the game, I listened to a podcast show. In the show, the host indicated that, by far in his career, that player hit very well at Coors field. After listening to the show, I was wondering which players are not so friendly as a guest at Coors Field.

To understand a little bit more, I went to check on the statcast website.

Buster Posey made his MLB debut in 2009 and retired after the 2021 season. In his great career, he slashed .302/.372/.460 with 158 home runs and 729 RBI. He won the 2012 NL MVP award. He played 81 games at Coors Field and had a batting average of .365. At this hitter friendly ballpark, he blasted 16 home runs and owned an OPS over 1.000.

Wil Myers made it into the big leagues in 2013. In his first 2 seasons, he played for the Tampa Bay Rays. In December 2014, he was traded to the Padres. He played for the Padres from 2015 to 2022 and traveling to Coors Field had been very common. During these 8 seasons, he had a .353 BA against the Rockies at Coors Field and crushed 14 HRs.

Matt Kemp made it into the big leagues in 2006. In his career, he certainly likes to hit at Coors Field. From 2006 to 2020, he slashed .308/.370/.578 with 25 home runs and 90 RBI at this hitter friendly ballpark. From 2008 to 2018, as a player from the away team, he collected 100 hits at Coors Field and had a batting average over .330. Matt Kemp didn’t have any plate appearances at Coors Field in 2019 and he played for the Rockies in 2020, which was the last time he appeared in the majors.

Finally, Paul Goldschmidt is another MVP award winner who likes to hit at Coors Field. He made it into the big leagues in 2011. From 2011 to 2022, Goldschmidt crushed 17 home runs at this ballpark and had a .329 BA. Moreover, Justin Turner’s first road trip to Coors Field was in 2011. From 2011 to 2022, he had .328 BA at this ballpark as a player from the away teams.

Coors Field is known as a hitter friendly ballpark and it’s certain that some players love to hit at this ballpark. When we look at the stats from 2008 to 2022, we’ve seen that some former MVP award winners enjoy hitting at Coors Field and the Rockies fans probably are not so happy to see them. By far this season, Juan Soto, Jake Cronenworth and Yuli Gurriel each have collected 9 hits at Coors Field. At the same time, Jorge Soler, Jack Suwinski, Gary Sanchez, J.D. Martinez and Juan Soto each blasted 3 homers at this ballpark. These guests are certainly doing damage against the Rockies. Furthermore, some of them might come to Coors Field again in the rest of the season.
