On fire in July?

July just came to an end. Hence, there are only 2 months left in the regular season. Several teams are fighting for clinching a berth in the postseason. There must be something exciting in the next few months. But, before that, let’s see those teams which have been playing very well in July.

Firstly, let’s look at the hitting performance. The Braves now have the best record in the majors. Last month, they hit well with an OPS of .822. Moreover, they crushed 47 home runs. No other team in the majors blasted more home runs than the Braves did in July.

Meanwhile, the Boston Red Sox had an OPS of .815 across 23 games. They had a batting average of .284, which ranks 1st among 30 MLB teams. The Red Sox took 15 wins in July. At this moment, the Red Sox are 4th in the AL East, but a good offense will certainly be helpful for the team to clinch a spot in the postseason.

At the same time, the Dodgers had a pretty good July. They owned an OPS of .813 through 23 games last month. In particular, they had an OBP of .352, which ranks 2nd among 30 MLB teams.

Furthermore, the Cardinals, the Padres and the Angels each had an OPS of .800 or higher in July. The Padres drew 107 walks, which is the most among 30 MLB teams. In the meantime, the Cardinals played 27 games in July and they led the majors with 257 hits.

After looking at some teams, which had good hitting performance. Let’s now look at the pitching performance.

The San Diego Padres earned 15 wins and lost 10 times in July. Their pitching staff had a 3.25 ERA, which is lowest among 30 MLB teams. But, interestingly, they gave up 105 walks and only one team gave up 100+ walks last month. Additionally, the Blue Jays pitchers had a 3.27 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP in July.

Furthermore, we have to look at the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners took 17 wins and 9 losses in July. Their pitching staff owned a 3.35 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP through 231.1 innings. Opponents batted .226 against the Mariners pitchers. A BAA of .226 is the lowest among 30 MLB teams.

In the meantime, the Mets had a 3.49 ERA last month. Nonetheless, they already traded Max Scherzer to the Rangers and sent Justin Verlander to the Astros. Without these 2 Cy Young award winners, can the Mets pitching staff still post an ERA below 4 in August?

Finally, the Reds are now leading the NL Central. Last month, they owned 3.51 ERA. And, the Baltimore Orioles now have a winning percentage over .600 and they are currently leading the AL East. The Orioles pitchers had been pitching well in July, posting a 3.61 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP through 26 games.

As we can see, the Braves and the Red Sox had seen that their batters did a great job in July. The Brave are now leading the NL East and if they can continue good hitting performance, it will be highly possible to see them win the division title again. At the same time, playing in the AL East isn’t easy. The Boston Red Sox are fighting hard at this moment, and they will surely need their batters to make solid contact. On the other side, for the Blue Jays and the Orioles, their pitching staff didn’t let them down. In the coming months, will their pitchers become the key factor to help these 2 teams clinch a berth in the postseason?
