Great pitching performance after All-Star break

In less than one month, the 2023 regular season will come to an end. There are several exciting moments during the regular season. For some players, they were off to a great start. However, some players need a little bit of time to heat up. After the All-Star break, there are several pitchers who are just outstanding on the mound.

And, now, let's see how great these pitchers have been after the Mid-Summer Classic.

The San Diego Padres have a very disappointing season. Nonetheless, it’s really hard to ignore Blake Snell’s performance in 2023. Before the All-Star break, Snell made 18 starts, posting a 2.85 ERA and 1.22 WHIP over 98 innings. In the second half of the 2023 season, he owns a great 1.89 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP through 57 innings. Additionally, he already punched out 69 batters. Opponents only hit .173 against him.

At the same time, the second half of the 2023 season should be a memorable one for Freddy Peralta. After the All-Star break, Peralta owns a 2.38 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP over 53 innings. He made 9 starts and punched out 80 batters. Before the All-Star break, Peralta had a 4.70 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP across 92 innings.

Meanwhile, no one will forget 3-time Cy Young award winner Max Scherzer. The Rangers acquired Scherzer before the trade deadline. At age 39, he doesn’t let the team down. He now owns a 2.21 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP in 36.2 innings in the Rangers uniform. Scherzer certainly has become the ace of the Rangers. After the All-Star break, he has a 2.38 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP through 56.2 innings.

Additionally, Yusei Kikuchi signed a 3-year contract with the Blue Jays last year. In 2022, he posted a 5.19 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP over 100.2 innings. It wasn’t a great season. In the first half of the 2023 season, he made 18 starts and owned a 4.24 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP over 93.1 innings. But, after the All-Star break, he has been excellent on the mound. Kikuchi now has a 2.50 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP over 50.1 innings in the second half of the 2023 season.

Furthermore, Justin Steele and Kyle Bradish each now have an ERA under 2.60 after the All-Star break.

In the meantime, Zack Wheeler had an ERA over 4 and his WHIP was 1.19 in the first half of the 2023 season. After the All-Star break, he’s been the most reliable starter in the Phillies rotation. After making 9 starts, he now has a 2.87 ERA and his WHIP is below 0.90. He threw 66 strikeouts in 59.2 innings.

Finally, Gerrit Cole’s WHIP is 0.92 after the All-Star break. Cole already made 10 starts and he punched out 72 batters across 63 innings. And, Spencer Strider has a WHIP below 1 as well.

As we can see, Blake Snell has been pitching excellently after the All-Star break. Gerrit Cole has been the most reliable pitcher in the Yankees rotation. However, we won’t see them in the postseason this year. Nonetheless, Yusei Kikuchi, Freddy Peralta and Zack Wheeler each have done a great job so far in the second half of the 2023 season. With their solid performance on the mound, their teams might be able to clinch a spot in the postseason. Furthermore, at this moment, the Rangers are fighting hard for a spot in the postseason. Will Max Scherzer help the team win the AL West title?
