The wins come from?

The Chicago White Sox now have a winning percentage of .228. It’s certainly a horrible season for the team and the fans must be unhappy with the results.

 

I watched a few games that the White Sox played in 2024. Not many, just a few games. Well, they still get wins. So far this season, they have won 34 games. And I’m just wondering where those wins come from. So, I decided to check on the great baseball reference website.

 

Firstly, the White Sox won 5 games against the Cleveland Guardians. So far this season, the White Sox played against the Guardians 13 times. In those 13 games, the White Sox scored 50 runs and gave up 62 runs.

 

In addition, they played against the Rays 6 times in 2024. They took 4 wins from the Rays. In those 6 games, the White Sox scored 28 times and allowed 27 runs. They swept the Rays in a 3-game series in late April. At the same time, the White Sox got 3 wins from the Red Sox. They played each other 7 times in 2024. In those 7 games, the White Sox scored 32 times and gave up 35 runs.

 

Moreover, there are 4 teams that the White Sox won the series with 2 wins and 1 loss. In early May, the White Sox won a 3-game series against the Cardinals. The White Sox got 11 runs and allowed 9 runs in the series. In mid-May, they took the series win against the Nationals. In the series, the White Sox had 9 runs and gave up 6 runs. In late June, they defeated the Rockies 2 times in a 3-game series. In that series, the White Sox scored 20 runs and gave up 11 runs. Very interestingly, they got 2 wins from the Braves. However, during those 3 games, the White Sox only scored 4 times but gave up 11 runs.

 

Meanwhile, the White Sox got 2 wins from the Astros and the A’s each. Nonetheless, they lost 4 times against the Astros and they lost to the A’s 3 times.

 

Finally, they got a win from 10 teams and 3 of those 10 teams are from the AL Central. They lost 9 times to the Tigers thus far. Additionally, the Twins and the Royals each defeated the White Sox 12 times in 2024. And 8 teams didn’t let the White Sox win any games this season.

 

Well, the White Sox haven’t played against the Angels or the Padres yet. We couldn’t tell how many wins the White Sox will have from those 2 teams. But, looking at the wins that the White Sox got so far, there's a key thing worth watching. Even though there are fewer games against the teams in the same division, it’s still very important to be able to secure more wins against the division rivals. In the AL Central, the Guardians lost 5 times against the White Sox. Nonetheless, the other 3 teams in the AL Central have played very well against the White Sox. Now, the Guardians are leading the division. Nevertheless, the Royals are only 3 games behind the Guardians and the Twins are 6.5 games behind the Guardians. It’s not that easy to say which team will eventually win the division title. So, let’s keep watching whether those 4 more losses against the White Sox will become an important factor for the Guardians.
