Second-half guy?

Just a couple days ago, I read an article, which indicated a player had heated up in the second half of the season. The writer mentioned several key stats. Well, actually, it’s not the first time that I read an article or a report about that player’s performance after the All-Star break.

After reading the article, I was just wondering which players had consistently hit well in the second half of the regular season. To solve my doubts, I decided to check on the statcast website.

Firstly, we see Freddie Freeman on the top of the leaderboard. Well, Freddie Freeman is one of the most consistent hitters in the majors. He can hit well through the season. Over the last 4 seasons, he owned a batting average over .320 in the second half of the season. His performance after the All-Star break, without a doubt, had been good over the last 4 seasons.

In addition, Bo Bichette owned a batting average over .310 in the second half of the season from 2021 to 2024. So far in his career, his batting average is below .280 before the All-Star break. Hence, it’s clear that Bichette actually performs much better in the second half of the season than he did before the All-Star break.

All Rise. Aaron Judge, who’s a two-time AL MVP, is one of the most dangerous hitters in the majors. No one will doubt Aaron Judge's power. From 2021 to 2024, Judge’s batting average was over .310 in the second half of the season.

Moreover, we see 2 players from the Braves. Ronald Acuna Jr. is a great player when he’s healthy. In particular, he won the 2023 NL MVP award. So far in his career, there’s no huge differences in his performance between the first half and the second half. Nonetheless, Michael Harris II’s story has been quite different. He made his MLB debut in 2022. In his career, his batting average is below .250 in the first half of the season. Nevertheless, after the All-Star break, his hitting performance is much better. From 2022 to 2024, his batting average was over .300 in the second half of the season.

Finally, Luis Arraez and Jose Altuve each owned a batting average over .300 after the All-Star break from 2021 to 2024. Well, they are 2 good hitters in the majors. So far in their career, their batting average is over .300 in the first half of the season each.

Looking back at the last 4 seasons, among players who had at least 500 plate appearances in the second half of the season, Freddie Freeman is the only one with a batting average over .320. He’s one of the most consistent hitters in the majors. Hence, there’s little doubt of his great performance. Nonetheless, Bo Bichette and Michael Harris II are the 2 players that we can keep watching. It seems that they normally heat up after the All-Star break. In particular, Michael Harris II looks like a different player after the Mid-Summer classic.
