In 2005, the Dodgers finished the season with 71 wins and 91 losses. However, the bad season doesn’t seem to be that bad. In 2006, the poor 2005 season led to a 7th pick in the 2006 MLB draft. The Dodgers used this pick to select Clayton Kershaw.
Clayton Kershaw didn’t waste too much time. In 2008, he made it into the big leagues. Nonetheless, he wasn’t off to a great start. In 2008, he finished the season with a 4.26 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP over 107.2 innings. Well, baseball fans must be familiar with the rest of the story.
Kershaw began to throw sliders and he has become one of the best pitchers this generation. Nonetheless, there’s always something that goes unexpected, the postseason struggles.
In total, Kershaw threw 196.2 innings in the postseason in his career. He owned a 4.62 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. 196.2 innings pitched rank 7th most in MLB postseason history. Nevertheless, his performance in the postseason certainly isn’t as good as in the regular season.
Looking back at Kershaw’s performance in the postseason, he did pitch well in 2015 with a 2.63 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP over 13.2 innings. In 2020, he threw 30.2 innings with a 2.93 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP. Well, then, there are a lot of unhappy moments.
From 2013 to 2025, the Dodgers won the World Series 3 times. Nevertheless, many fans might remember those tough losses. And sometimes, the Dodgers’ postseason ended on the day that Kershaw was the starter. Those moments are just tough.
In the 2025 postseason, Kershaw made 2 relief appearances. The first one is in the NLCS, he threw 2 innings in game 2, giving up 5 runs (4 earned) in 2 innings. The other is in game 3 of the World Series. Kershaw took the mound in the top of the 12th inning and it was base loaded. Kershaw used 8 pitches to escape the jam and that is his final pitch of his career.
Looking back at the 2005 season, the Dodgers didn’t play well. And in this century, the 2005 season is the worst season for the Dodgers. Nevertheless, that might be a blessing in disguise. The Dodgers got the 7th pick in 2006 and they chose Kershaw. Kershaw has become the franchise player of the Dodgers. He’s a 3-time Cy Young award winner and a winner of the 2014 NL MVP award. And today, the last game of the 2025 season ended. The Dodgers won the World Series title and have become the first back-to-back champion this century. Kershaw’s last day as a player ended. He goes out as a champion. As a Dodgers fan, I’m just so glad that the Dodgers won the title again and Kershaw finished his career as a champion. For me, watching him pitch is always a wonderful thing. I won’t be able to watch it again, but I’m glad that I did. Of course, some games in the postseason were tough, but all were gone.
