The year of 2025 has come to an end soon. After the 2025 season, several teams have signed some relievers to enhance the bullpen. Of course, a key thing is to hope that the relief pitchers can secure more wins. While seeing several signings this offseason, I’m just wondering about the bullpen performance over the last several seasons.
To solve my doubts, I decided to check on the great Fangraphs website.
Looking back at these 3 seasons, the Guardians relievers posted 3.25 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. Both are the lowest among 30 MLB teams. And looking at the stats year by year, in 2023, the Guardians RPs owned a 3.79 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. In 2024, the Guardians relief pitchers were outstanding. They finished the season with a 2.57 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. Opponents only hit .203 against them. The Guardians got 90+ wins in 2024, a key thing is that they had a great bullpen. This season, the Guardians bullpen had a 3.44 ERA, which ranked 3rd among 30 MLB teams. In 2025, they clinched a berth in the postseason as well.
In addition, the Brewers relief pitchers owned a 3.38 ERA in these 3 seasons. In 2023, the Brewers RPs had a 3.40 ERA, which ranked 2nd among 30 MLB teams. In 2024, the Brewers relievers owned 3.11 ERA, which again ranked 2nd among 30 MLB teams. This season, they had a 3.63 ERA. As we can see, the Brewers bullpen has been quite consistent over these 3 years.
Moreover, the Padres bullpen had a 3.54 ERA from 2023 to 2025. Their ERA was 3.80 in 2023. Last season, their ERA was 3.78. In 2025, they did a great job with a 3.06 ERA, which was the lowest among 30 MLB teams. The Padres clinched a spot in the postseason in 2024 and 2025.
Furthermore, 2 teams from the AL West each should be satisfied with its bullpen over these 3 seasons. The Mariners bullpen and the Astros bullpen each owned a 3.64 ERA from 2023 to 2025. Their bullpens didn’t finish a single season with an ERA of 4 or higher from 2023 to 2025.
Finally, the Dodgers relief pitchers had a 3.74 ERA from 2023 to 2025. But they had a problem in 2025 with an ERA over 4. The same problem happened in New York. The Yankees bullpen owned an ERA over 4 in 2025. Nevertheless, we should take a look at the Rays relievers. They finished each of the last 3 seasons with an ERA below 4.
So, when we look back the last 3 seasons, the Guardians bullpen was solid and in particular, they were outstanding in 2024. They only took 12 losses in that season. At the same time, we can more or less understand the way that Brewers construct a team. They have a good bullpen that can pitch consistently. From 2023 to 2025, we didn’t see huge differences in their bullpen ERA. Additionally, the Padres bullpen has been quite consistent in these 3 seasons as well. Well, we don’t know if the bullpens from these teams will still pitch well in 2026. Nonetheless, a key thing is that you need a good bullpen to help you win today’s baseball games.
