You got good outfielders?

I listened to a podcast show a few weeks ago. In the show, a host mentioned an article which was written by his colleague and it was about outfielders. It had interesting content and after listening to the show, I was just thinking about a question.

Over the last several seasons, which teams actually have pretty outfielders in the lineup? To solve my doubts, I decided to check on the great Fangraphs website.

So, I took a look at the OPS from 2023 to 2025. Among 30 MLB teams, the Yankees outfielders owned an OPS over .800 and it’s the only team with an OPS over .800. At the same time, they had an OBP of .346, which was the highest among 30 MLB teams. And the Bronx bombers truly crushed a lot of home runs. In these 3 seasons, the Yankees outfielders blasted 303 home runs. Among 30 MLB teams, only the Yankees outfielders hit 300+ home runs from 2023 to 2025.

In addition, the Cubs outfielders had an OPS of .792 in these 3 seasons. Their OBP was over .340 as well. Meanwhile, they smashed 230 home runs from 2023 to 2025. 230 home runs ranked 3rd most among 30 MLB teams.

In the meantime, let’s take a look at another team in the AL East. The Boston Red Sox fans might be glad to see their outfielders’ performance as well. From 2023 to 2025, the Red Sox OFs had an OPS over .789 and an OBP of .333. And their batting average was .268, which ranked 1st among 30 MLB teams.

Meanwhile, the Padres outfielders had an OPS over .770 in these 3 seasons. Their OBP was over .330 as well. Their batting average was .260, second highest among 30 MLB teams. Moreover, the Braves outfielders owned an OPS over .750 in these 3 years. Their batting average was .260 as well and they smashed 200+ home runs.

Finally, there are 6 other teams whose outfielders owned an OPS over .740. Among those 6 teams, the Mets are the only team with an OBP over .330. And 3 of those 6 teams each saw their outfielders go yard 200+ times from 2023 to 2025.

As we can see, from 2023 to 2025, the Yankees outfielders have shown that they contributed a lot to the lineup. It’s not that easy to see a player with an OPS of .800 or higher. Nonetheless, the Yankees OFs owned an OPS over .800 in these 3 years. A main reason, of course, they are Bronx bombers and they did crush home runs. In the National League, the Cubs OFs did a good job as well. Well, their OPS was close to .800. They did get on base and hit home runs. Nevertheless, there’s an interesting case. From 2023 to 2025, the Angels outfielders smashed 255 home runs, which ranked 2nd among 30 MLB teams. But, unfortunately, their on-base percentage was below .300. In the 2026 season, we can keep watching the outfielders’ performance among these teams to see if there are dramatic differences.
