The 2026 season is over. Recently, I’ve watched some highlights of this season. In a highlight, I saw a pitcher who was dominating while pitching against the Red Sox. His performance was surely impressive. After watching that highlight, I was just wondering which pitchers had pitched well against the Red Sox over the last several seasons.
To solve my doubts, I decided to check on the statcast website.
Firstly, Shane Baz made his MLB debut in 2021. So far in his career, he has made 85 starts, posting a 4.19 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. From 2024 to 2026, he made 8 starts against the Red Sox, posting a 2.34 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP over 50 innings. He struck out 50 Red Sox batters. The Red Sox only hit .169 against him.
Moreover, Jameson Taillon made his MLB debut in 2016. So far in his career, he has made 200+ starts. His first start against the Red Sox was in 2017. In his career, he has made 9 starts against the Red Sox, posting a 2.39 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP over 52.2 innings. From 2021 to 2026, the Red Sox only hit .204 against Taillon in 8 games.
In addition, Carlos Rodon has earned 100 wins in his career with 1500 strikeouts. His first start against the Red Sox was in 2016. Rodon has made 14 starts against the Red Sox thus far in his career, posting a 3.97 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. From 2021 to 2026, he made 10 starts against the Red Sox and has a .206 BAA.
Furthermore, Reid Detmers just had a great 2026 season. He finished the season with a 3.36 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP over 185 innings. He threw a career-high 211 strikeouts. It’s the first time that he finished a season with at least 200 strikeouts. Detmers made his MLB debut in 2021. So far in his career, he has thrown 42.1 innings against the Red Sox, posting a 2.34 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. He threw 48 strikeouts against the Red Sox and has a .207 BAA.
Finally, Joe Ryan made it into the big leagues in 2021 as well. He has thrown 786 innings so far in his career, posting a 3.79 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. He has made 6 starts against the Red Sox, posting a 3.08 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP in 38 innings. And he struck out 40 Red Sox batters. The Red Sox only hit .208 against Joe Ryan.
Looking at these 6 seasons, Shane Baz, Reid Detmers and Joe Ryan all made it into the big leagues in 2021. They have been pitching well against the Red Sox. In particular, Shane Baz has an ERA over 4 so far in his career, but he has a 2.34 ERA against the Red Sox and a .169 BAA. The Red Sox batters certainly have some problems when facing Baz. And very interestingly, Reid Detmers has a 2.34 ERA against the Red Sox as well. Meanwhile, Rodon is now pitching for the Yankees and he’s an important pitcher for the Yankees to face the division rival.
