Hate the Dodgers?

During the regular season, I watched a game between the Dodgers and the Padres. In the game, Manny Machado collected a hit and the Padres scored. Machado was on the base and waved his hands. The body language clearly showed his emotion. Machado must be really excited to collect a hit against the Dodgers. After watching the game, that makes me think about whether he has collected more hits than any other players since he joined the Padres.

Machado was traded to the Dodgers in 2018 and in 2019, he decided to ink a long-term deal with the Padres. Thus, let’s take a look at the stats from 2019 to 2022.

Well, it’s not a huge surprise to see Manny Machado’s name on the top. From 2019 to 2022, Manny Machado collected 65 hits against the Dodgers. Among those 65 hits, 13 were home runs. Additionally, while playing for the Orioles, Machado collected 5 hits against the Dodgers. So far in his career, Manny Machado played 72 games against the Dodgers, hitting .253/.312/.448 with 15 home runs and 38 RBI. Manny Machado is the only player who collected 60+ hits over these 4 seasons. In the meantime, two players each collected 50+ hits against the Dodgers from 2019 to 2022. One player is Charlie Blackmon, who used to win the National League batting title. Blackmon had 57 hits against the Dodgers from 2019 to 2022. By far, he has spent 12 seasons with the Rockies, hitting .297/.354/.488 with 207 home runs and 709 RBI. Against the Dodgers, Blackmon slashes .295/.354/.465 with 19 home runs and 62 RBI so far in his career. The other player who collected 50+ hits against the Dodgers over these 4 seasons is Ketel Marte. Marte had 52 hits against the Dodgers from 2019 to 2022. By far in his career, Marte has played 81 games against the Dodgers, batting .285/.338/.421 with 6 home runs and 30 RBI. Finally, 6 other players each had 40+ hits against the Dodgers from 2019 to 2022. Christian Walker collected 48 hits against the Dodgers during this period and 15 of those hits were home runs. Walker has 17 home runs against the Dodgers in his career thus far. Furthermore, against the Dodgers, Eric Hosmer collected 47 hits from 2019 to 2022 and his batting average was .280. Hosmer has been playing 12 seasons in the majors. In 73 games against the Dodgers, his batting average is .246.

Manny Machado is a 6-time All-Star and there’s no doubt that he’s a great player. He only played for the Dodgers for a few months. In 2019, he chose to stay in the west and agree to a long-term deal with the Padres. Since 2019, he has been hitting well against the Dodgers. He may opt out of his current contract after the 2023 season. But, before that, he is still in the NL West and he's surely a tough batter to face. The Padres were playing against the Dodgers in the NLDS. Machado hit .357/.471/.643 with 1 home run and 2 RBI in 4 games. And, the Padres advanced to the NLCS for the first time since 1998.
