
The first half of the 2025 season is almost over. Several rookie players have been off to a good start this season. And it’s certainly worthwhile to see how good they have done.
Firstly, let’s look at good rookie hitters. Jacob Wilson made his MLB debut last season. He played 28 games in 2024, but his OPS was below .700. Nonetheless, this season, he’s been excellent. Wilson now has 109 hits with an OPS over .800. At this moment, he’s the only rookie player with at least 100 hits.
Furthermore, Cam Smith was traded from the Cubs to the Astros last December. He made it into the big leagues this season. So far, Smith has 77 hits in 75 games. His OPS is .800.
Moreover, Eric Wagaman made his MLB debut in 2024 as well. He played 18 games and had an OPS below .700 last year. So far this season, Wagaman has 76 hits. Nonetheless, his OPS is still below .700.
In addition, Nick Kurtz was selected in the first round of the 2024 draft. This season, he made it into the big leagues. His power is certainly impressive. So far, Kurtz has smashed 13 home runs in 51 games and owns an OPS over .800. Also, Agustin Ramirez made his MLB debut in 2025 as well. He now has 13 home runs over 63 games. His OPS is .759 now. Also, Drake Baldwin, who made his MLB debut this season well, already crushed 10 home runs thus far. Baldwin has an OPS over .800. At the same time, Jacob Wilson has 9 home runs.
Meanwhile, 7 qualified rookies each have at least 30 RBI. Jacob Wilson has collected 42 RBI, leading the qualified rookies. Cam Smith has collected 39 RBI in 75 games and Agustin Ramirez has 37 RBI over 63 games. In the meantime, Nick Kurtz has 35 RBI in 51 games.

Additionally, Isaac Collins has played 70 games this season. He has 46 hits and 26 walks. His OBP is over .360. At the same time, 3 other qualified rookies each own an OBP over .350.
Looking at the rookie position players, Jacob Wilson has surely drawn a lot of attention. He didn’t play well in 2024. Nonetheless, he has a great season thus far. Over the last 2 seasons, the A’s front office certainly made the right decision to choose these 2 players.
