How about hitting fastballs?

The 2026 World Series has already begun. After the first 2 games, the Brewers are leading the series now. As the postseason is going to come to an end soon, I’m just curious about the hitting performance of each team this postseason. To solve my doubt, I decided to check on the statcast website.

This time, I chose to look at hitting performance against fastballs among 12 teams that made the playoffs.

Firstly, the Padres actually hit fastballs well this postseason with a batting average of .304. They collected 44 hits in the 2026 playoffs and 34 of them were hit against fastballs. But they lost to the Brewers in the NLDS. Also, the Phillies hit well against fastballs with a .298 batting average. They had 24 hits this postseason and 14 of them were hit against fastballs.

In addition, let’s look at the Brewers, which now play in the World Series. The Brewers now hit .258/.349/.396 with 11 home runs and 40 RBI in the postseason. They have collected 84 hits in the 2026 playoffs and 52 of them were hit against fastballs. The Brewers have a .277 batting average against fastballs. Furthermore, the Yankees batted .242 against fastballs this postseason. They had 38 hits in the 2026 playoffs and 24 of them were from fastballs.

Moreover, the Guardians have 80 hits this postseason and 55 of them were hit against fastballs. The Cleveland Guardians owned a batting average of .238 against fastballs. In the meantime, the Rays have collected 81 hits this postseason and 45 of them were hit against fastballs. Their performance against fastballs isn’t so good with a .231 batting average.

Additionally, the Dodgers fell short this postseason. They didn’t hit very well in the playoffs with a batting average of .195 in 8 games. Against fastballs, their batting average is below .230. Meanwhile, the White Sox played 7 games in the 2026 postseason. They collected 48 hits and 26 of those hits were from fastballs. Their batting average is below .220 against fastballs this postseason.

Finally, the Braves’ batting average is .200 against fastballs and the other teams owned a batting average below .200 against fastballs.

Well, there’s something interesting. The Padres and the Phillies actually hit well against fastballs. Nonetheless, they didn’t go long in the playoffs. But the Astros, the Red Sox and the Cubs were swept in the Wild Card Series. Their performances against fastballs just showed that there was a serious problem. It’s not easy to hit in the postseason. Hitting fastballs well doesn’t guarantee you to advance to the next round. Nevertheless, if a team’s batting average against fastballs is below .200. There must be something wrong. If it can’t be fixed soon, it’ll be extremely difficult to even secure a win in the playoffs. The Fall Classic has already begun, so we can keep watching these 2 teams’ hitting performances. It seems that the Brewers are doing a better job against fastballs. However, it’s postseason and lots of things could happen. Are we going to see something surprising against fastballs?
