Jose Berrios

A friend bought some lucky bag products for me. It’s possible to find numbered cards or a hit (relic card or autograph card) in a lucky pack. When I opened the second lucky bag, I found a card, which is a thick one.

It’s a Jose Berrios autograph card from the 2022 Topps Five star. In the front, we can clearly see that Jose Berrios is pitching in the Blue Jays uniform. This card looks pretty good to me. While seeing this card, I just thought about Berrios’ career thus far.

Jose Berrios made his MLB debut in 2016. So far in his career, he has made 273 starts and 2 relief appearances. Berrios now has a 4.08 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP over 1571.2 innings. He has thrown 1481 strikeouts. He has pitched for the Twins and the Blue Jays. And how about Berrios’ performance in these 2 uniforms? Are there any huge differences?

Jose Berrios was called up by the Twins in 2016. He made 14 starts in 2016, posting an 8.02 ERA and a 1.87 WHIP over 58.1 innings. The next season, he made 25 starts and 1 relief appearance. He owned a 3.89 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP over 145.2 innings.

In 2018, Berrios made 32 starts, posting a 3.84 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP in 192.1 innings. He was selected to the All-Star game in 2018. In 2019, Berrios made 32 starts again. He owned a 3.68 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in 200.1 Innings. He was selected into the mid-summer classic as well.

In the shortened 2020 season, Berrios made 12 starts, posting a 4.00 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP over 63 innings. In 2021, Berrios made 20 starts for the Twins, posting a 3.48 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP over 121.2 innings. In July 2021, he was traded to the Blue Jays. Berrios made 12 starts for the Blue Jays in 2021, posting a 3.58 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP over 70.1 innings.

However, Berrios didn’t have a good season in 2022. He made 32 starts with 12 wins and 7 losses. Nonetheless, his ERA was over 5 and his WHIP was over 1.40. The next season, Berrios made 32 starts again. He owned a 3.65 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP over 189.2 innings.

Finally, Berrios made 32 starts for the Blue Jays in 2024, posting a 3.60 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP over 192.1 innings. Last season, he made 30 starts and 1 relief appearance, posting a 4.17 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP in 166 innings. Nevertheless, Berrios didn’t pitch in the 2026 season due to an injury.

When we look at Berrios’ career so far, interestingly, the stats are quite similar between 2 teams. He earned 55 wins in the Twins uniform and now has 53 wins as a Blue Jay. Moreover, his era was 4.08 in the Twins jersey and has a 4.09 ERA in the Blue Jays uniform. And there’s no huge differences in innings pitched. But his ERA is a bit higher as a Blue Jay. Unfortunately, Berrios missed the entire 2026 season because of an injury. However, looking at his career, his performance is consistent when he’s healthy. Nevertheless, he had some problems in 2026. In the coming season, let’s see when he will come back to the mound first and watch whether he will still pitch consistently.
