The 2021 spring training is almost coming to an end. Each team is going to set the opening day roster very soon. In this spring training, there are several pitchers that perform really well and it’s worth watching how well they will perform in the regular season.

Lucas Giolito has a pretty good spring so far. He made 6 starts in spring training, tossed 23 innings and threw 30 strikeouts. He posted an ERA of 1.17 and a 0.87 WHIP. The White Sox named him as the opening day starter and it seems that Giolito is ready.

The Marlins selected Trevor Rogers in the first round of the 2017 draft. He made it into the big league last August. In his first season, Trevor Rogers made 7 starts and tossed 28 innings. He posted a 6.11 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP with 39 strikeouts and 13 walks. In the 2021 spring training, Rogers seems to be ready for his sophomore season. In 5 starts, he threw 19 innings and struck out 29 batters, posting a 2.84 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP. The left-handed pitcher should earn the fifth spot of the Marlins rotation.

Trevor Bauer won the 2020 NL Cy Young award and agreed to a huge deal with the Dodgers in the offseason. He made 5 starts and one relief appearance in spring training. In total, Bauer tossed 23.1 innings and threw 28 strikeouts. How many strikeouts did he throw with two eyes open?

Huascar Ynoa made three starts and three relief appearances in spring training, he tossed 17.1 innings with 28 strikeouts, however, he had an ERA of 7.79 and a 1.56 WHIP.

Lucas Gilito

The Minnesota Twins named Kenta Maeda as the opening day starter. There are several reasons to believe that it’s a great decision. Hitters only batted .123 against Maeda in spring training. Meanwhile, he posted a 0.49 ERA and a 0.49 WHIP. In 18.1 innings, he threw 22 strikeouts and only walked one batter. The Twins definitely want him to continue good performance during the regular season.

Two-time Cy Young award winner Jacob deGrom will start the first game of the Mets in 2021 and it’s not a surprise. He made 4 starts in spring training and threw 13.2 innings. His WHIP was 0.66 and his ERA was 0.66. Jacob deGrom also threw 21 strikeouts and batters only hit .128 against him.

Lucas Giolito only let batters hit .130 this spring, it’s another good reason to believe that the White Sox opening day starter is ready for the new season.

In spring training, Tyler Anderson made 5 starts and in 18 innings pitched, his K/BB is 9. Marcus Stroman opted out of the 2020 season, in the 2021 spring training, Stroman seems to be well prepared for the new season, his K/BB was 8.50, while posting a 3.44 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP.

We are just a few days away from the 2021 opening day. Pitchers such as Kenta Maeda, Jacob deGrom and Lucas Giolito were very solid on the mound this spring. Will they stay dominant in a long season as they did in spring training?
