It has been a while since I bought Topps Pro Debut baseball cards last time. Recently, I saw that there was a marketing campaign in an online card store and decided to get some Topps pro debut cards. Of course, I was looking for some top prospects and if lucky, I can find autograph cards or relic cards.
Well, I did not get any autograph cards or relic cards. However, I found an Andrew Vaughn image variation card, which is an SSP. When I checked the pack odds, it showed 1:195 hobby packs, which is about 1:8 hobby boxes. A rare top prospect baseball card, that’s really good.
According to the MLB prospect rankings, Andrew Vaughn currently ranks the No. 1 of the White Sox organization and he’s No. 14 prospect of the league’s top prospects list. He was selected in the first round by the White Sox in the 2019 draft. Vaughn played 55 games in the minors in 2019 and was hitting .278/.384/.449 with 6 home runs and 36 RBI. He was invited to spring training in 2020 and 2021. In the 2021 spring training, Vaughn has played 11 games and had 1 home run and 4 RBI so far.
Besides Andrew Vaughn, Michael Kopech, Nick Madrigal and Garrett Crochet are in the top 100 prospects list.
Michael Kopech is the league’s No. 39 prospect. Kopech was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 2014 draft and he was traded to the White Sox in December 2016. Kopech made his MLB debut on August 21, 2018. In total, he only threw 14.1 innings in 2018 and posted a 5.02 ERA and a WHIP of 1.53. He underwent Tommy John surgery in September 2018 and did not pitch in 2019 and 2020. Kopech already tossed one inning in the 2021 spring training.
Nick Madrigal is the No.40 prospect. He was drafted in the 17th round by the Indians in 2015, but he did not sign. In 2018, the White Sox selected him in the 1st round. Madrigal made it into the big league at the end of July last year. In the shortened 2020 season, he played 29 games and slashed .340/.376/.369. Madrigal already had 35 hits and 11 RBI. However, he’s still looking for his first career home run.
The Milwaukee Brewers selected Garrett Crochet in the 34th round of the 2017 MLB draft, but he decided to go to college. Then, the White Sox selected him in the 1st round in the draft last year. He didn’t wait too long and made his MLB debut last September. He threw 85 pitches last season and 72 pitches were four-seam fastballs. On average, his fastball velocity was 100.1 mph in 2020. The 2021 spring training is his first spring training and so far, he has tossed 3 innings.
These 4 prospects could provide a lot of excitement to the White Sox fans. There are several things to watch. When will Nick Madrigal hit his first home run? Michael Kopech’s first season after recovering from Tommy John surgery, how many innings will he toss in 2021? Garrett Crochet’s fastball is really hard to hit and he has a slider and a changeup in his pitch arsenal. Can he consistently pitch well in the bullpen this year? Finally, a very interesting thing, when will Andrew Vaughn make his MLB debut?
