2-out RBI

A couple of days ago, I was watching a baseball game. On the mound, a pitcher quickly got two outs and it seemed that he could get his job done and end the inning without allowing a run. Nonetheless, things just quickly changed. He walked a batter and the next batter hit a double, one run scored. Unfortunately, the pitcher couldn’t end an inning without allowing a run. After watching this game, I was just wondering whether the opposing team had been hitting well after two outs.

In the 2020 postseason, the Dodgers scored 59 runs with 2 outs. The Dodgers scored 101 runs in the 2020 postseason, hence, more than 50% of those runs were scored after two outs. This season, the Dodgers have collected 225 RBI with two outs, most among 30 MLB teams. By the way, in the 2021 season, the Dodgers collected 315 RBI with two outs, which were the most among 30 MLB teams. Over these years, opposing pitchers must stay focused on the Dodgers batters even with two outs, otherwise, the damage might come very soon.

 

Last season, the Braves had 313 two-out RBI. They clinched the NL East title. Additionally, they had a great October and won the 2021 World Series title. Now, they are 2nd in the NL East. With two outs, the Braves already crushed 69 home runs, most among 30 MLB teams. And, they have 221 two-out RBI thus far.

 

At the same time, the New York Mets also have 200+ RBI with two outs so far this season. Last year, with two outs, the Mets had only 193 RBI, tying 2nd fewest among 30 MLB teams. The Mets were just hitting .214 with two outs last season. This season, the Mets’ batting average is .247 with two outs. You can see the difference.

 

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees are leading in the AL East. With two outs, the Yankees already blasted 65 home runs. The Yankees have 206 two-out RBI thus far. Last season, the Yankees had 253 RBI after two outs, which were 16th among 30 MLB teams. The Bronx Bombers certainly have done a better job with two outs this season.

 

Finally, the Blue Jays and the Cardinals each have 200+ RBI with two outs this season. Furthermore, after two outs, the Blue Jays’ batting average is .263, highest among 30 MLB teams. Additionally, the Brewers and the Phillies each have nearly 200 RBI after two outs.

 

The Dodgers scored 59 runs after two outs in the 2020 postseason. Last season, they led the majors with 315 two-out RBI. This season, they now have 225 RBI with two outs and again, that’s the best among 30 MLB teams. After two outs, the Dodgers batters certainly know what to do and know how to do it. Moreover, in the 2021 season, the Mets batters didn’t perform well with two outs. However, this team is not the same. In the 2022 season, the Mets have done a much better job with two outs and they shall be back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
