7th inning or later

A few days ago, I watched a game with a great friend who really likes baseball. It was an exciting game. The home team was behind, but rallied from the 7th inning. By scoring several runs, the home team eventually won the game. After watching the game, I was just thinking about a question. Which teams do score more runs in the 7th inning or later?

To understand a little bit more, I went to check on the MLB website.

The New York Yankees are currently leading in the AL East. By far this season, they have already scored 613 runs. Among those 613 runs, 216 runs were scored from the 7th inning or later. In the late innings, the Bronx Bombers already crushed 64 home runs. Furthermore, from the 7th inning or later, the Yankees now have 184 walks, most among 30 MLB teams. Hence, opposing pitchers have to be very careful against the Yankees batters in the late innings.

At this moment, the Dodgers are leading the majors with the record of 84-36. So far, they have already scored 642 runs, most among 30 MLB teams. In the late innings, the Dodgers scored 200 runs thus far. The Dodgers don’t hit as many home runs as the Yankees do from the 7th inning or later. However, in the late innings, the Dodgers now post a batting average of .265, highest among 30 MLB teams.

In the meantime, the Braves scored 193 runs from the 7th inning or later. In the late innings, the Braves already blasted 51 home runs, tying the most in the NL. The Braves are now 2nd in the NL East.

Moreover, the White Sox are fighting hard in the AL Central, trying to clinch the division as they did last season. The good news for the White Sox fans is that the team can score in the late innings. By far, the White Sox scored 509 runs and 187 runs were coming from the 7th inning or later. The White Sox have 358 hits in the late innings, which are the most among 30 MLB teams. Another team in the AL Central also scored 180+ runs in the late innings. The Cleveland Guardians now lead in the AL Central and from the 7th inning or later, they already scored 186 runs.

Finally, the Arizona Diamondbacks are now 4th in the NL West and again, they will not be in the playoffs. By far, the D-backs scored 515 runs, which ranks 18th in the majors. However, in the late innings, the D-backs already scored 185 runs. The D-backs just don’t give up easily? Additionally, the Brewers, the Rangers and the Giants each scored 180+ runs in the late innings.

The Yankees are now the leader in the AL East and the Dodgers currently have the best record in the majors. A good reason to tell us why they are leading in the division is that they can score more runs in the late innings. Opposing teams must be very cautious while facing these two teams. In particular, managers from opposing teams have a lot to think about. For example, they have to make a right move on pitching change if they need to call a reliever from the bullpen. However, there’s something interesting this season. The Astros now have the best record in the AL. They only scored 140 runs in the late innings, which are the 3rd fewest among 30 MLB teams.
