2022 Topps Heritage High Number

Opening some packs of baseball cards is fun. Firstly, you might get some cool rookie cards. Additionally, you may find some hits such as autograph cards and relic cards. However, you might get something unexpected as well.

As a Dodgers fan, it’s always great to open some packs and see some Dodgers baseball cards. Nonetheless, there is something unexpected in life. I opened some packs of the 2022 Topps Heritage High Number, which was released in early December. I saw a relic card in a pack and I was wondering what I would get.

I was excited to see a hit, nonetheless, I was speechless while I saw Jose Altuve’s photo. I didn’t expect to see a relic card from an Astros player, but a hit is a hit. It’s a card with a piece of game-used bat. Then, I began to think about Jose Altuve’s performance in the postseason.

By far in his career, Jose Altuve has played 92 games in the postseason, hitting .271/.344/.500 with 23 home runs and 49 RBI. He now ranks second all-time with 23 postseason home runs. Additionally, his 49 postseason RBI ranks eighth.

In the postseason, Altuve’s numbers are not bad. However, after the Astros cheating scandal shocked the baseball world, does Altuve play well in the postseason?

From 2015 to 2019, the Astros clinched a postseason berth for 4 times. During these years, Altuve had a batting average of .290 in the postseason and he crushed 13 home runs. From 2020 to 2022, he played 42 games in the postseason. But, his batting average dropped to .249. However, there’s no significant difference in OBP.

Finally, let’s look at Altuve’s postseason performance from 2020 to 2022. In the 2020 season, Altuve hit .375/.500/.729 with 5 home runs and 11 RBI. He did hit well in the 2020 playoffs. Nonetheless, in the 2021 postseason, his batting average dropped to .209. But, Altuve again smashed 5 home runs in the postseason. In 2022, the Astros won the World Series title, but Altuve didn’t play well in the postseason. In the 2022 playoffs, he only batted .190/.242/.241. He didn’t have a home run or collect an RBI.

In the 2017 postseason, Jose Altuve slashed .310/.388/.634 with 7 home runs and 14 RBI in 18 games and the Astros won the World Series title. Additionally, the Atros won the AL pennant in 2019 and Altuve batted .329/.366/.605 with 5 home runs and 9 RBI in 18 games. Playing in the postseason is not easy, but as we can see, in 2017, in 2019 and in 2020, Altuve’s batting average was over .300 in the postseason. Nonetheless, over the last 2 seasons, he might not be satisfied with his performance in the playoffs. There are many factors that could impact Altuve's performance in the playoffs. Perhaps, Altuve is just getting older or it was a short period of time that he wasn’t in the best condition. It’s highly possible to see the Astros clinch a postseason berth in 2023. Let’s wait and see how things go.
