The division series just finished. The league championship series will start very soon. Before the LCS starts, let’s take a quick look at the division series.
Firstly, let’s look at the hitting performance. The Blue Jays defeated the Yankees in the ALDS. In 4 games, the Blue Jays hit .338/.373/.601 with 9 home runs and 33 RBI. 9 home runs in 4 games, they certainly crushed baseballs. At the same time, the Brewers beat the Cubs in the NLDS. The Brewers hit .250/.328/.425 with 7 home runs and 21 RBI in 5 games.
Meanwhile, the Mariners beat the Tigers in 5 games. In the ALDS, the Mariners had a batting average of .207 with 6 home runs and 17 RBI. Moreover, the Dodgers defeated the Phillies in the NLDS. However, the Dodgers didn’t hit well in 4 games in the NLDS. They only batted .199 with 2 home runs and 12 RBI.
In addition, let’s take a look at pitching performance. The Phillies pitchers actually did a good job in the NLDS. They owned a 2.87 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP over 37.2 innings. They threw 41 strikeouts. In the meantime, the Tigers pitchers tossed 51.1 innings in the ALDS. They posted a 2.98 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP with 58 strikeouts.
Well, the Phillies and the Tigers didn’t advance. And let’s see how their opponents had done in the division series. The Mariners pitchers threw 52 innings in the ALDS, posting a 3.29 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP with 55 strikeouts. At the same time, the Dodgers pitching staff tossed 38 innings in 4 games, posting a 3.32 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP with 38 strikeouts.
Finally, the Brewers and the Cubs played 5 games in the NLDS. In those 5 games, the Brewers pitching staff threw 43 innings with 3.35 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. They struck out 46 batters. And the Blue Jays pitchers threw 35 innings in the ALDS, posting a 4.37 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP.
When we look at the stats in the division series, it’s clear that the Yankees didn’t play well. In particular, their pitching staff didn’t stop the Blue Jays. An ERA over 8 is truly difficult to win a series. Nonetheless, the Phillies pitchers actually didn’t let the Dodgers hit very well. Nevertheless, the Dodgers did seize the opportunities. The Dodgers pitchers did their job in the NLDS. However, their hitting performance wasn’t good. In the meantime, the Mariners pitchers and the Brewers pitching staff each owned an ERA below 3.40 in the division series. Hence, as we can see, the Dodgers, the Brewers and the Mariners will certainly need their pitching staff to pitch consistently in the LCS. For the Blue Jays, they hit very well against the Yankees. In ALCS, it will be worthwhile to see whether they can stay hot and keep crushing baseballs.
And interestingly, the Mariners and the Blue Jays met in the 2022 AL Wild Card Series. The Dodgers and the Brewers met in the 2018 NLCS and in the 2020 Wild Card Series. The rematches shall be fun to watch.
