A couple of days ago, we just reviewed pitchers who had done a great job in home games this century. After reviewing the pitching stats, of course, it would be fun to review stats on hitters.
To do so, again, I checked on the great Fangraphs website.
Firstly, let’s start with batting average. Well, it might be a little bit surprising, but not so surprising. Todd Helton, who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2024, played in the majors for 17 seasons. From 2001 to 2013, his batting average at Coors Field was over .330.
Moreover, Charlie Blackmon played in the majors from 2011 to 2024. He finished his career with a batting average of .293. In his career, he owned a batting average of .329 at Coors Field.
Furthermore, Magglio Ordonez played in the majors from 1997 to 2011. From 2001 to 2011, he had a .329 batting average in home games. Also, Nomar Garciaparra was a great player when he was healthy. He played 14 seasons in the majors with a batting average over .300. From 2001 to 2009, his batting average was over .320 in home games.
In addition, let’s now look at OPS. Aaron Judge made his MLB debut in 2016 and he has been an outstanding hitter in the league. So far in his career, his OPS is over 1.000 in home games. Moreover, Manny Ramirez played in the majors from 1993 to 2011. From 2001 to 2011, Manny Ramirez owned an OPS over 1.000 in home games. Todd Helton’s OPS was very close to 1.000 at Coors Field from 2001 to 2013.
At the same time, Mike Trout is one of the best hitters this generation, well, when he’s healthy. Trout just reached 400 home runs this season. So far in his career, his OPS is very close to 1.000 in home games. Also, David Ortiz, who’s a Hall of Famer, played in the majors from 1997 to 2016. Ortiz had an OPS of .991 in home games.
Shohei Ohtani, who’s a unicorn in baseball, has an OPS of .988 in home games thus far in his career.
Finally, let’s look at home run hitters. Albert Pujols played in the majors from 2001 to 2022. He blasted 703 home runs in his career and 300+ home runs were crushed in home games. Furthermore, Miguel Cabrera played in the majors from 2003 to 2023, he’s a member of 500-HR club. Cabrera smashed 256 home runs at home. Alex Rodriguez played in the majors from 1994 to 2016. He had 242 home runs at home games from 2001 to 2016. And, Adam Dunn blasted 237 homers in home games from 2001 to 2014.
Looking at the stats from 2001 to 2025, we might clearly see one thing, that is the park factor. Todd Helton and Charlie Blackmon all spent their careers with the Rockies. They certainly love to hit at this hitter-friendly ballpark. At the same time, during these years, we can’t ignore several great players such as Aaron Judge, Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. They can hit and they hit well. Without a doubt, they can hit well in home games.
