The 2025 Topps Chrome Update was released in December 2025. This brand has been a popular choice in the market because collectors are looking for rookie patch autograph cards. Well, it’s not that easy to find a rookie patch autograph card. So, my expectation is modest.
After this product was released, I was just thinking what the best option for me is. I went to a sports card shop and the owner suggested a blaster box. However, I didn’t buy that day. A few weeks ago, I explored an online shop and there were some lucky bags available. For me, that package looked quite attractive. In total, I got 2 jumbo packs of the 2025 Topps Chrome Update. After opening 2 jumbo packs, I found a cool insert card. It’s a Jacob Wilson night terrors insert.
Looking at the card, there’s a RC logo and I’m just wondering about the rookie players in the A’s and decided to take a look at the MLB website.
Looking at the hitting performance among the A’s rookies in the 2025 season, without a doubt, there are 2 players that have drawn a lot of attention. Jacob Wilson, who made it into the big leagues in 2024, had a great season in 2025. He played 125 games for the A’s, hitting .311/.355/.444 with 13 home runs and 63 RBI. His OPS was very close to .800. At the same time, a batting average over .300 isn’t easy. Wilson’s batting average of .311 ranked 3rd in the majors.
The other player is Nick Kurtz. He made his MLB debut on April 23, 2025. In the first season of his career, he did a great job. Kurtz played 117 games for the A’s, slashing .290/.383/.619 with 36 home runs and 86 RBI. He finished his first season in the majors with an OPS over 1.000. He certainly has shown his great power.
As we can see, Jacob Wilson and Nick Kurtz were the only 2 rookies that played 100+ games for the A’s in 2025. Moreover, Max Muncy played 63 games in 2025, hitting .214/.259/.379 with 9 home runs and 23 RBI. In the meantime, 3 other rookie players each played 40+ games for the A’s last season. Colby Thomas played 49 games in the majors in 2025, hitting .225/.267/.417 with 6 home runs and 19 RBI. Furthermore, Denzel Clarke played 47 games in 2025, hitting .230/.274/.372 with 3 home runs and 8 RBI. He also stole 6 bases. Additionally, Carlos Cortes slashed .309/.323/.543 with 4 home runs and 14 RBI in 42 games.
The 2025 season wasn’t a good one for the A’s since their winning percentage was below .500. Nonetheless, Jacob Wilson and Nick Kurtz both played well. Kurtz won the 2025 AL Rookie of the Year award and Jacob Wilson finished 2nd in the rookie of the year voting. It’s clear that the A’s have 2 good young hitters in the lineup. If Wilson and Kurtz continue contributing to the A’s and other rookie players show improvements in the 2026 season, the team’s future looks bright and it will be quite interesting to watch the A’s. Moreover, as the A’s and Tyler Soderstrom, who’s also a good young hitter, agreed to a contract extension last December. Will signing a contract extension with Kurtz or Wilson happen soon?
