I listened to a podcast show a few days ago. In the show, a host mentioned a player because he thought that the player is one of the best shortstops in the majors. Playing shortstop isn’t easy in the MLB. After listening to the show, I was just thinking about a question.
Over the last 3 seasons, among the shortstops, who had contributed a lot to the team? To solve my doubts, I decided to check on the great Fangraphs website.
Firstly, let’s look at the number of home runs. From 2023 to 2025, Francisco Lindor smashed 95 home runs. He finished each of the last 3 seasons with 30+ home runs and an OPS over .800. Willy Adames crushed 86 home runs from 2023 to 2025. In particular, he smashed 30+ home runes in each of the last 2 seasons. At the same time, Bobby Witt Jr. crushed 85 home runs in the last 3 seasons and Corey Seager had 84 home runs. Gunnar Henderson had 80+ home runs from 2023 to 2025 as well.
In addition, looking at RBI, Bobby Witt Jr. collected 293 RBI from 2023 to 2025. In particular, he had 109 RBI in 2024. Meanwhile, Willy Adames had 279 RBI in the last 3 seasons. In 2024, he collected 112 RBI, which is the most in a single season so far in his career. And Lindor collected 270+ RBI during this period. Mookie Betts had 264 RBI from 2023 to 2025. However, he didn’t reach 90 RBI in each of the last 2 seasons.
Well, let’s turn to a different aspect. Looking at their speed, Elly De La Cruz certainly has shown that speed is his weapon. He made it into the big leagues in June 2023. So far in his career, he has 139 steals. In particular, he stole 67 bases in 2024. Also, Jose Caballero made his MLB debut in 2023 as well. He has stolen 119 bases so far in his career. Bobby Witt Jr. had 118 steals in the last 3 seasons. CJ Abrams had 100+ steals from 2023 to 2025.
Finally, let’s look at OPS. Corey Seager can surely do damage when he’s healthy. From 2023 to 2025, his OPS was over .900. In particular, his OPS was over 1.000 in 2023. Moreover, Bobby Witt Jr. had an OPS of .881 in the last 3 seasons. Mookie Betts’ OPS was .861 from 2023 to 2025. Nevertheless, Betts’ OPS was below .750 last season. Gunnar Henderson had an OPS over .800 in the last 3 seasons, but his OPS was below .800 in 2025. And Francisco Lindor’s OPS was over .800 over the last 3 seasons as well.
Looking back at the last 3 seasons, we can see that Bobby Witt Jr. and Francisco Lindor had contributed a lot on the offense side. Meanwhile, another important thing that we have to watch is that Bobby Witt Jr. also runs a lot. His bat and speed are certainly an asset in the Royals lineup. Corey Seager is the only one with an OPS over .900. Nonetheless, he missed some playing time, which is a pity.
