OK OK, not a blast

A few weeks ago, I went to a sports card shop that I used to go to. I hadn’t been there for quite a while, perhaps more than 1 year. I looked around and was thinking what to buy this time. Well, I didn’t see something so attractive. A key reason is that the prices of some hobby packs aren’t what I expected. But let the market decide. In the end, I decided to buy a blaster box of the 2025 Topps Archives.

I like Topps archives, so I decided to get a blaster box of the 2025 Topps Archives this time. There were 3 blaster boxes available. A staffer asked me to choose one.

Let’s see what I got this time.

Base cards: Tarik Skubal, Adley Rutschman, Aaron Nola, Tyler Soderstrom, Xander Bogaerts, Shohei Ohtani, Derek Jeter, Gleyber Torres, Colton Cowser, Marcell Ozuna, Jasson Dominguez, Framber Valdez, Zac Gallen, Vladimir Guerrero, Corbin Burnes, Johnny Bench, Ian Happ, Nathaniel Lowe, Anthony Volpe, Miguel Cabrera, Babe Ruth, Rod Carew, Edwin Diaz, Marcus Semien, Matt Olson, Aaron Judge, Freddy Peralta, Rhys Hoskins, Orel Hershiser, Zach Neto, Bryan Reynolds, Carl Yastrzemski, Pablo Lopez, Austin Riley, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Cal Raleigh

Rookie cards: Jace Jung, Caden Dana, James Wood, Will Wagner, Kristian Campbell, Adael Amador, Kevin Alcantara, Kumar Rocker, Shay Whitcomb, Spencer Schwellenbach, Zach Dezenzo, Marcelo Mayer, Justyn-Henry Malloy

Black Foilboard (4): Juan Soto, Gavin Lux, Roki Sasaki (RC), Dylan Crews (RC)

2007 Topps All-Star (1): Andrew McCutchen

1987 Boardwalk and Baseball (2): Brooks Lee (RC), Mike Trout

For me, the best card from this value box is probably the Roki Sasaki black foil rookie card. As a Dodgers fan, it’s always nice to add some rookie cards of the Dodgers. Roki Sasaki’s performance in the 2025 postseason was surely a good one. In 2026, I truly hope to see him pitch much better than he did in his rookie season. Of course, an important thing is that he has to stay healthy and pitch consistently.

As you can see, the result of opening this blaster box isn’t great. Well, I just chose the brand that I like the most. So, there’s nothing to complain about.

Sometimes, I would just like to go to a sports card shop to see if there’s something interesting. I might not buy anything. Nonetheless, since I hadn’t gone to this shop for quite a while and I didn’t want to come out empty. I chose the Topps Archives and tried to see if something cool would happen. Well, it didn't.
