100 runs?

Around a month ago, I watched an interview on YouTube. A player who used to win an MVP award shared the experience of his career. In the interview, he mentioned his goals in some seasons. Interestingly, he indicated that he would like to score 100 runs in a season. That’s something unusual. We usually hear a player’s goal about hitting 30+ home runs, collecting 100+ RBI and so on. However, scoring 100 runs in a season, that sounds quite interesting.

After watching the interview, I decided to see if there were many players who scored 100+ runs in a single season over the last several seasons. To solve my doubts, I decided to check on the MLB website.

To make things easier, let’s quickly look at the stats over the last 5 seasons.

In 2021, there were 16 players who scored at least 100 runs in the season. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. led the majors with 123 runs. Also, Bo Bichette and Freddie Freeman each scored 120+ runs in 2021. Additionally, Marcus Semien scored 115 runs in that season as well. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and Marcus Semien all played for the Blue Jays in 2021. There’s no doubt that the Blue Jays did score a lot of runs that season.

In the 2022 season, there were 10 players who scored at least 100 times. Aaron Judge led the majors with 133 runs. At the same time, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman each scored 117 times in 2022. In the Dodgers lineup, Trea Turner was the other player who scored 100+ runs. The Dodgers led the majors in runs in 2022 and we shouldn’t be surprised about this.

In addition, Ronald Acuna Jr. won the 2023 NL MVP award. In 2023, Acuna Jr. scored 149 runs. Freddie Freeman scored 131 runs in the Dodgers uniform. Meanwhile, Matt Olson and Mookie Betts each scored 120+ times. Also, in the Braves lineup, Austin Riley was the other player who scored more than 100 runs in 2023. The Braves and the Dodgers were the only 2 teams which scored 900+ runs in the 2023 season.

In 2024, Shohei Ohtani led the majors with 134 runs. In the meantime, Juan Soto, Bobby Witt Jr., Aaron Judge and Corbin Carroll each scored more than 120 times in that season. Gunnar Henderson and 6 other players each scored more than 100 times. In total, 12 players scored at least 100 runs in the 2024 season.

Finally, last year, Shohei Ohtani again led the majors in runs. Ohtani scored 146 runs in 2025. At the same time, Aaron Judge scored 137 runs and Juan Soto scored 120 runs. Last season, there were 12 players who scored at least 100 runs.

Looking back at the last 5 years, there were 10+ players who scored at least 100 runs each season. So, this year, it might be reasonable to see 10+ players to reach 100 runs. However, it will be worthwhile to monitor one thing. Ronald Acuna Jr. scored 140+ runs in 2023 and Shohei Ohtani did so in 2025. This season, will any players score at least 140 runs?
