A few weeks ago, I ordered some lucky bags and I found some cool relic cards. Interestingly, I found a Manny Ramirez relic card. It’s from the 2006 Upper Deck. On the front, we can see that Manny Ramirez was in the Red Sox jersey with a huge piece of game-used jersey.
This card looks pretty cool to me. While seeing this card, I began to think about Manny Ramirez’s career. Well, there are still some debates on his career. However, it might be hard to ignore that he was named the 2004 World Series MVP. And looking at his stats in the playoffs, he might be one of the most dangerous hitters.
Firstly, let’s start with runs scored. Derek Jeter is the only player who scored more than 100 times in the postseason. Jose Altuve and Bernie Williams each scored 80+ times in the playoffs. Manny Ramirez had scored 67 times in the postseason. Also, Kenny Lofton and Alex Bregman each scored 60+ times in the playoffs.
Secondly, let’s look at leaders in hits in the postseason. Derek Jeter is the only player who had at least 200 hits in the playoffs. Bernie Williams had 128 hits in the playoffs and Jose Altuve has collected 118 hits. Manny Ramirez collected 117 hits in the playoffs. Jorge Posada and Yadier Molina each had 100+ hits in the playoffs as well.
In addition, let’s look at home runs. Manny Ramirez blasted 29 home runs in the playoffs and it’s still the most in postseason history. Moreover, several active players have blasted 20+ home runs in the postseason. Jose Altuve has 27 home runs in the postseason. George Springer and Kyle Schwarber each have smashed 23 home runs in the playoffs.
Furthermore, let’s take a look at leaders in RBI. Bernie Williams collected 80 RBI in the postseason. Manny Ramirez had 78 RBI, which ranked 2nd most in the playoffs. David Justice and Carlos Correa each had 63 RBI in the postseason. And interestingly, Derek Jeter and David Ortiz each collected 61 RBI in the playoffs. Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman each have collected 50+ postseason RBI thus far in their career.
Finally, let’s look at bases on balls. Manny Ramirez and Chipper Jones each drew 72 walks in the postseason. Meanwhile, Bernie Williams and Jorge Posada each drew 70+ walks in the playoffs. Derek Jeter had 66 walks in the postseason. Now, Max Muncy has 65 walks so far in the postseason. And David Justice had 64 walks in the playoffs.
Looking back at Manny Ramirez’s stats in the postseason, he surely had played outstandingly. He slashed .285/.394/.544 with 29 home runs and 78 RBI over 111 games. His OPS was over .900 in October baseball. Also, he collected 117 hits and drew 72 walks. Looking at these numbers, he’s in the top 10 in several hitting categories. In particular, even now, he’s still the leader in walks and home runs in the postseason. Additionally, he collected 78 RBI, which is the 2nd most in the playoffs. In 2026, let’s see if there will be any active players who can reach some records that Manny Ramirez set in October.
