It was a few weeks ago, I listened to a podcast show. In the show, an analyst indicated a player’s good performance against the Dodgers. That player collected several extra-base hits against the Dodgers in a series.
After listening to the show, I was just thinking which players had hit well against the Dodgers over the last several seasons.
To understand a little bit more, I decided to check on the statcast website.
Trea Turner was traded from the Nationals to the Dodgers in July 2021 and he played for the Dodgers in the 2022 season. In December 2022, he and the Phillies agreed to a 11-year deal. In 2021, 2023 and 2024, he did hit well against the Dodgers and owned a batting average of .365. In particular, in 2024, he collected 10 hits and 6 RBI against the Dodgers in 6 games.
In addition, Nico Hoerner is one of the most consistent hitters in the Cubs lineup. He finished each season with a batting average over .270 from 2021 to 2024. He’s not a home run hitter. However, he does collect hits. From 2022 to 2024, he collected 28 hits against the Dodgers and had a batting average of .350. In particular, in 2022 and 2023, he had 10 hits against the Dodgers each season.
Meanwhile, against the Dodgers, David Fletcher collected 9 hits in 2020, had 11 hits in 2021 and in 2023, he got 1 hit. In those 3 seasons, his batting average was .350 against the Dodgers. Nonetheless, none of those hits were home runs.
Cody Bellinger is a player that the Dodgers fans would never forget. Bellinger played for the Dodgers from 2017 to 2022. As a Dodger, he won the NL Rookie of the Year award in 2017 and in 2019, he won the NL MVP award. Over the last 2 seasons, he played for the Cubs and he did hit well against the Dodgers with a batting average over .320. What’s more interesting, Bellinger crushed 3 home runs against the Dodgers in each of the last 2 seasons.
Finally, Jorge Soler had only 1 hit against the Dodgers in 2021. In 2023, Soler collected 3 hits against the Dodgers. Last season, he hit well against the Dodgers with 18 hits in 14 games. In those 3 seasons, Soler’s batting average against the Dodgers was over .310. Moreover, over the last 3 seasons, Randal Grichuk’s batting average against the Dodgers was over .310 as well. In 2022, Grichuk collected 18 hits and 16 RBI in 16 games against the Dodgers. Furthermore, Brendan Rodgers collected 53 hits against the Dodgers over the last 5 seasons. In particular, he hit very well against the Dodgers in 2022 with 28 hits in 19 games.
Over the last 5 seasons, the Dodgers won the World Series twice and they are certainly a tough team to face. However, there are still some players that hit well against this great team. Trea Turner and Nico Hoerner are good at collecting hits. And interestingly, it seems that Cody Bellinger did hit the ball hard against a team that he grew up with.
