They are good in the playoffs?

A couple of days ago, I watched a baseball game on TV. Well, the Dodgers were playing. Without doubt, they are postseason contenders. While watching the game, a play-by-play guy indicated a player’s performance in the postseason.

The Dodgers won the 2024 World Series and several players played outstandingly last season. After watching the game on TV, I began to think about the Dodgers hitters’ performance in the last 10 postseasons.

To solve my doubts, I decided to check on the great Fangraphs website.

Firstly, let’s look at the leaders in hits. Justin Turner certainly was a key player in the Dodgers organization. He played for the Dodgers from 2014 to 2022. From 2015 to 2022, Turner collected 85 hits in the playoffs. He has collected most career hits for the Dodgers in the postseason. In particular, Turner collected 20 hits in the 2018 postseason.

Meanwhile, Mookie Betts has collected 56 hits for the Dodgers in the postseason since 2020. Moreover, Chris Taylor was traded to the Dodgers in 2016. But, he didn’t play in the postseason in 2016. From 2017 to 2024, Taylor collected 56 hits in the postseason as well. Corey Seager had 55 hits in the Dodgers uniform in the playoffs. And Cody Bellinger collected 51 hits for the Dodgers in the postseason from 2017 to 2022.

Secondly, let’s look at the home run leaders. Justin Turner blasted 13 home runs in the playoffs from 2015 to 2022. In particular, he smashed 4 home runs in the 2017 postseason. Two-time All-Star Max Muncy didn’t play in the 2021 postseason due to an injury. Nonetheless, he’s a home run hitter when he’s healthy. From 2018 to 2024, he smashed 13 home runs in the playoffs. Furthermore, Corey Seager crushed 13 home runs for the Dodgers in the postseason. In particular, Seager blasted 8 home runs in the 2020 postseason. And Kike Hernandez hit 10 home runs for the Dodgers in the postseason.

In addition, let’s look at the RBI leaders. Again, Justin Turner is the leader. Turner collected 42 RBI for the Dodgers in the postseason. Furthermore, Corey Seager had 36 RBI while playing for the Dodgers in the postseason. Moreover, Max Muncy and Mookie Betts are now still playing for the Dodgers and they each had 30+ RBI in the postseason for the team.

Finally, let’s look at OPS. David Freese played for the Dodgers in 2018 and 2019. He certainly loved to hit in the postseason with an OPS over 1.000. Last July, Tommy Edman was traded to the Dodgers and he hit very well in the postseason. Edman was named the 2024 NLCS MVP. In the 2024 postseason, Edman owned an .862 OPS. Moreover, Andre Ethier played for the Dodgers from 2006 to 2017. From 2015 to 2017, Either had an OPS of .861 in the postseason. Furthermore, Joc Pederson played for the Dodgers from 2014 to 2020. From 2015 to 2020, Pederson owned an OPS over .850 in the postseason.

Looking back at the Dodgers hitters in the postseason over the last 10 years, Justin Turner and Corey Seager did play an important role for the Dodgers in the postseason. Well, David Freese didn’t stay long for the Dodgers, but his performance in the postseason was certainly impressive. Moreover, we can keep watching if Mookie Betts, Max Muncy, Tommy Edman and Freddie Freeman are going to hit well in the postseason. Nevertheless, the team has to clinch first.
