After being traded

The 2026 MLB trade deadline was on August 3. Before the trade deadline, there were several trades that attracted a lot of fans’ attention. After those trades, do the players play well in the new team?

Today, let’s focus on the mound.

Firstly, Tarik Skubal, who’s a 2-time AL Cy Young award winner, was traded to the Dodgers. He made 16 starts for the Tigers in 2026, posting a 2.79 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP over 96.2 innings. In the Dodgers uniform, Skubal has made 5 starts, posting a 3.00 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP in 30 innings. Meanwhile, Casey Mize, who was pitching for the Tigers as well, was traded to the Padres. Mize made 16 starts for the Tigers this season. He threw 86.2 innings, posting a 2.70 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP. In the Padres uniform, he owns a 6.26 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP over 23 innings after making 5 starts.

Moreover, Robbie Ray is still in the NL West. But he moved from San Francisco to San Diego. In 2026, Ray owned a 3.08 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP over 122.2 innings in the Giants uniform. After being traded to the Padres, Ray now has a 3.98 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP in 20.1 innings.

In addition, Kevin Gausman was traded from the Blue Jays to the Cubs. Gausman made 23 starts for the Blue Jays in 2026, posting a 4.38 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP over 127.1 innings. In the Cubs uniform, Gausman now owns a 5.14 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP over 28 innings. At the same time, the Blue Jays did acquire players. They got Jose Soriano from the Angels. Soriano made 22 starts for the Angels in 2026. He owned a 3.29 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP over 123 innings. In the Blue Jays jersey, Jose Soriano already made 5 starts. He got 2 wins, posting a 4.13 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP over 28.1 innings.

Finally, Luis Castillo was traded to the Mariners in July 2022. This August, he was sent to the White Sox. Castillo actually had some struggles in Seattle this season. He threw 99.2 innings, posting a 5.06 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. An ERA over 5 doesn’t look good. Now in Chicago, Castillo has made 5 starts for the White Sox, posting a 6.45 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP over 22.1 innings.

Well, there are still several trades that include key pitchers. However, looking at these key trades, Skubal now looks fine in the Dodgers uniform. Nonetheless, he’s a 2-time Cy Young award winner and fans might expect to see him pitch even better. For other trades, we might still need to watch if those pitchers can contribute a lot to the new team. Perhaps, some pitchers need some time to adapt to a new team. Nevertheless, the time is limited. Each pitcher might have 4 or 5 starts during the regular season. Moreover, several teams are fighting hard for a spot in the postseason and their fans certainly want them to make a huge impact.
